Dang, I use almost everything on the sampler. I can't even remember what a simpler looks like. I guess it depends on how you use them. I often times use the sampler like a synth just using my own waveforms instead of an oscillator.

How come you dont use the nn-xt anymore? As far as i knew its got everything I need in a sampler but i could be missing a trick here... what more do the kontact and renoise things do that nn-xt and related tolls cannt do?

Kontakt has a built in visual wave/slice editor (like recycle) so you can edit your slices a little quicker than in the nnxt and it supports nearly all the major sample formats including the akai and emu sample cd formats. It also has some awesome built in fx.

I dont like recycle, i always use soundforge 1st then load wavs into the nn-xt, so although it may take a little longer to chop the sounds up im just happy doing it that way until i find someway thats better for me, i dont like that drag and drop stuff on recycle its never quite precise enough and you can end up with the sounds chopped all rong.............is Kontact easy to run through reason 4 or is it just stand alone? does sound cool that it supports akai and emu formats but most samples are available in wav anyway right? am just trying to wok out why contact is like over £200, it seems a lot....

If you are using Reason alone there is no need to use another sampler really the nnxt is fine. Kontakt is stand alone and a VSTi for the likes of Cubase, Logic, Ableton etc.

It comes with a large pack of samples I believe. Forgive me if I am wrong as I always cut my own samples but I believe if you get the samples formatted as apposed to wavs then everything is set up for you across the keys. Can save a lot of time and I am sure sample banks are easier to find in their original format.

NNXT is quite limiting with it's automation. I remember being very disappointed when it came out. I would usually opt for the NN19 and just using one for each sound. The LFO's and filters leave something to be desired as well. If you use only Reason then use only Reason because you are better off not knowing what you are missing imo.

I completely disagree, I think software samplers are far superior in every way. I really don't even want to hear about hardware unless it's analog. To each their own tho.

It's at least 10 times easier working in a soft sampler, prolly 100 times easier. But my asr-x has a sound BRO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ypou mean better off not knowing as they arent that much more usefull or better off not tto over complicate things? was using cubase but dont really like the interface, too much pissing around for sounds that werent even that great, obviouslt thats where the plugins come in usefull right? I do want something that can work my samples better than the NN-XT like the stuff they do in a lot of electro and some dubstep, something that will stutter the sample for me would be good. not use to the nn19 but is there more manipulationb on samples within that?

No that isn't what I mean at all. If anything Reason over complicates things imo. I am not really going to get into it because we have enough Reason hate threads in here.

I love the simpler. I use it in every single one my tunes. All you really need is simpler and impulse and you can make entire tunes... (not including FX).
I only use sampler when I'm doing multi samples with breaks or something.
If I need that classic Akai "sound" I'll use my S5000.
EZ

for a certain sound or character to it yes in some regards, interface and ease of use... meh
