Because I thought all that No Limit stuff was gash.

not really. master p was boring as shit, imo. when baby got behind the production with cash money it really made everyone in the northeast step up and take notice, that the south was bringing big big beats.

also, no limit and cash money were big rivals at one time. this is pretty much spot on about their beef...

as far as region rap definitions; you can't really call all of the south "dirty south"

southern hip hop = atlanta (ATL, ludacris, outkast, etc), virginia (nerd, timbaland, missy) ,south carolina, north carolina

miami bass = florida (2live crew, etc)

dirty south = louisiana (new orleans, cash money, etc), missisippi, tennesee, texas



**one big misconception about no limit is that they're dirty south. master p is from california. no limit records started in oakland. they just happened to make southern influenced hip hop, and adopted the region so to speak.

that's why i say the originations of dirty dirty are cash money, and will always be them.

another thing you should know for reference. don't ever call public enemy or tribe called quest "moronic" in or around the state of new york. it might get dangerous for you, because chuck d is the man in these parts. so is qtip for that matter.

I agree with you seckle that cash money was integral to the development of rap in the "dirty south" . I disagree that the other states/people just jumped on a the bandwagon to "make money" and that 80% of it is crap.

i'm super critical of hip hop, because the genre just ate itself. too much versace, furs and champagne. the death of hip hop came when people stopped taking musical risks just to get a fat check and a new escalade.

I see where you are coming from seckle, i am disturbed by the emphasis on materialism at times - its symptomatic of our society -imo.
Sometimes i dig it as well -the materialism etc.. It's all a fantasy in a way. Like a movie or something. I gave up taking it very seriously a long time ago.

i dont suppose i'd expect dnb/dub dudes to be rocking out to 'down for my ******' but its just good shit... every artist hits and misses. im starting to realize even the pop artists have gems... hating is a good way to spend the hours you arent doing shit yourself.
