Couldn't agree more!
The thing is they are happy to limit themselves.. Stuff like Rusko and Boregore is easy to listen to and doesn't take alot of concentration to appreciate it.

some interesting ideas fellas i personally love everything about dubstep the deep the bang your fuckin head off shit the glitchy stuff all of it deserves love

you cant generalize all students as rusko bummin indie kids...
im a student doin music production deg i wouldnt say im fucking up the scene, lots of sound people on the course and some very deep producers, and some quality djs, some of the guys doin events management are putting on some wiked events, cant generalize all students as knobs, most of your favorite producers av prob done college or uni course in production music tech watever.

I think that the really mainstream/well known stuff stuff (BOREgore, Ruskoetc.) all serves a purpose, and that is to get people into Dubstep in the first place. Not everyone can discover Dubstep through Dubstep Warz and the original dubstep of years ago (Fack im lucky I found it then..). People's interests progress and they eventually like more underground/unheard Dubstep anyway

After that there are always going to be the people pushing the futuristic melodic sound while others push the heavy grit. Honestly i feel like the melodic shit is exploding at this point, and that's what i prefer, but i hope that in the future there will be heavy melodic grit.

but honestly i would say the future of music as a whole will be one genre with all types of shit mixed in.

As an American, I prefer the heavier tunes, as do the few other people I know who've heard of dubstep, so I guess it isn't just you. Though I'm sure I'll be focusing on making heavy wobbly stuff as I am now, I'd really like it if there wasn't such a division between "heavy" and "deep". Filthy wobbly shit gets boring after a while, and frankly, the more "intelligent" stuff will likely suffer the same fate of IDM of years past, that being the producers will spend too much time having their heads up their asses to make something that's as much of a work of art that they'd wish it was. The only problem with wonky is that it's a stupid name for style or genre or aesthetic or whatever it is, but that's probably where we can have nice things.

yeah spot on. I know hearing rusko and the like first got me into dubstep... and then i went through a brief period of liking the 'filthy' side of it. Joined this forum and its shown me the way to much better things. Wouldn't listen to borgore anymore but without people like him I dout i would have been introduced to the music i mostly listen to now.

This topic seems to rear it's head every few months...the big difference now is that a lot of people seem to be grabbing at new sounds & movements quickly in the hope that it is the sound that will become the new dubstep (or at least the next big electronic movement). I'm all for it...the diversity is in electronic music not what we CALL electronic music.... Martin Clark's recent Pitchfork laid out the agendas of lots of the new factions, from Future Garage to Juke to the UK House stuff to UK Funky.... of course there is lots more happening outside of these realms....The breakier side of things being an obvious exclusion from that list (although people write about what they are feeling personally!)....

Suddenly it is not all about 'this producer has come from dnb/breaks and started making dubstep' it is now all about 'this producer from dubstep has started making.....'. I'm sure it isn't a case of people jumping a sinking ship but rather just looking to make their own new sounds without having the burden of a genre tag laid on them.

People are breaking away from the '140bpm with subbass' matra of 2005 and it is now 'bass music'...some of it is deep, some of it is jump up, some is 4x4, some is Soca, some is swung....Some is similar and some is completely different....The key trend is that in the same way we had 8bar, Sublow, Grime & dubstep emerging out of UK Garage we now have new sounds springing out alongside dubstep....

Enjoy what you are feeling. My personal belief is that smaller sub-scenes give producers a chance to start making music they are feeling at grassroots level...if their sound fits in with an emerging scene then it can grow around them...if it doesn't fit any other scene then they can acquire fans and make a scene themselves.

i would. but it's a mistake to assume that either one is the "correct" form of listening. We all like music for our own reasons

I predict that everyone will start either producing 140bpm bland jump up dnb believing it's heavy or will start making incredibly boring progressive house thinking they're being deep.

What I want is the older style of heavy dubstep back. Like Vex'd's Degenerate's more nasty moments. Shit that's real agressive but still intelligent and atmospheric.

I think we need to stop worrying about classification, and just listen to whatever the fuck we want to listen to.

But that would take away a scenes inherent need to bitch about itself and its new age direction.....

there are enough producers in this world to satisfy even the most picky listeners.

This genre is infinite in possibility - just sit back relax, chiiiiilllllll it'll all be ok....
