I think production is like any art...
You learn the skills to give your creativity the best chance.
The more technical knowledge you gain, the less the boundaries are on creativity...
...its a balance.

true all that, but i make music for that moment just as the arrangement takes it's shape and the tune emerges from the mess, if i get that rushing feeling then i know i've made a decent tune.
