pro tools le and guitar center both exist to screw you out of money, lol. i've yet to buy an le system that works properly. bought the 001 the week it came out (direct connect anyone? what a fucking joke), and now i've got the mbox mini... nightmare. GC will talk you into whatever has the highest profit margin (even if it's shit, and costs less), so fuck them too.

heh i guess i'm one of the few who had no problems installing my mbox2 and pro tools.
i also got it for cheap cause it was one of the open box ones from someone who couldn't install it
btw we're not always dicks at gc some of us actually try to help people before thinking of our own wallets

Not all the producers are tech geeks dude, lotsa wintards in the music world, can install all the virii they can handle, god forbid you tell em too get some shoddy drivers movin...

installing was easy, getting pro tools to run more than 2-3 plugins without taking a shit on you = the issue. and no, i'm not going to go to digi's website and jump through hoops to get the shit to work right (disable spotlight, lol... stnuc.) everything else runs fine on my macbook as is, and mind you, i dealt with the same shit with the 001 when it first came out too.

yea for the most part i do installs for people who bring in their towers or laptops and show em how to run it to a point
i don't just sell i do a lot of tech support and help people out to the extent i can if i have free time. hell i share what i know here in my free time and i'm the same way at work and even outside of it with my customers.

heh have to shoot you a green screen email. yea surprisingly we have a really good audio dept who know what they're doing. all 4 of us are djs, 3 signed producers and all audio geeks, but yea digi tech support sucks ass, but when setup properly it runs like a charm. still prefer cubase though

Deadly I dunno, you have tried to sell me shit I don't need or want over aim when you were drunk lolz. That said I am sure there are some helpful employees of that store (none that I have been in) but you pretty much have to have the mindset that the GC salesman doesn't give a fuck about you only your credit card or you could very well get ripped off. Treat them as a used car salesman imo.

i know before i worked there i always went in with a goal and knowing what i wanted and ignored most of the salesmen who were quick to try to show me something off the wall
hell tonight i got someone to get the krk rp5s instead of the mr5 which would have made me more $

when they attend a conf with the owner etc, yes
behringer makes a couple decent products for the cash, he just didn't like me telling him that around same price point there is better stuff that gc doesn't stock enough of

I'm sure they've just got a bad rep cause of a couple of their products and then people have kinda jumped onto the idea they're terrible. There are people I've spoken to who've just said they're shit without actually giving a reason at all lol

But at the end of the day, I'd pick another brand at the same price over Behringer methinks...

before you call Guitar Center, keep in mind that we do work on a commission based structure. if you call me and ask me for something that I know we dont cary in store (Audio 8 DJ, NI Kontrol, Maschine, etc), im ALWAYS going to try and sell you something that you can actually grab in store. that being said, if you call me asking for Live 8 Suite, I wont try and sell you a 003 Rack.

that being said, any GC employee can special order you the piece you're looking for as long as its not discontinued, etc.

also, Pro Tools 8 has some very solid MIDI upgrades.

Yeah I bailed on that idea, and that's what I thought: commission.

i dont think its any harder to get hired at GC than anywhere else, personally.

yea i will vouch for it killing my creativity at times. that and the store sees back a decent chunk of my paycheck, but if you are good at sales you can make some money.

yeah, do NOT expect to get a job at GC and start buying gear like crazy. because you won't.

im a Department Manager in Pro Audio at one of the smallest GC stores in the chain and I tend to do alright in sales. i make steady enough commission to keep my bills paid.

also, certain departments will always sell way more than others. Pro Audio and Guitars typically do the best while Drums is always harder to sell in.
