As a music school graduate, I can honestly say I have NO regrets at all in having studied music in University despite not having a "professional career" in music currently.
As mentioned before in this thread, it really is a fantastic environment to be in. You'll undoubtedly meet people you can really communicate with and what you get off each other is priceless.
You'll also be totally immersed in musical thought and practice which is so great in internalizing the tools of making music.
That being said, I definitely don't believe you HAVE to go to music school to make good stuff. I took solely performance/composition/theory classes and I have still managed to learn alot of the technological side of things from other sources like this forum, other forums, YouTube, Internet and peers.
