i saw him last year and there was absolutely no variation in his set. every single tune sounded exactly the same. i tried to give him the benefit of the doubt, but after a whole set of the same thing over and over, he completely lost me

Excision and Datsik would be two people.
So, them.

i need that hydraulic VIP.
its just annoying when whole sets dont have any ups and downs....tension/release.
from what ive heard, datsik may be releasing hydraulic in the future.
but as of know, this drop is pretty darn similar..if not the same

datsik is one of my favorite producers alongside downlink. he uses elements from several genres. i think he is going for a dubstep / hip hop fusion. well, more hip hop oriented beats, but with dark industrial wobble basses. i really like his sample work and his sound design is top notch. against the machines with downlink is just rediculous. i really like gecko, and southpaw is just fuckin gangster lol. i get tired of excision really fast just because he uses the same growl / sawtooth bass in every song. his hydraulic sample work and everything is fantastic, and his sets are pretty awesome, but thats because he's one of the heads of rottun? he's always playin the newest stuff. still though, downlink is my favorite. i love how he incorporates all those drum breaks and he is the most robotic sounding in my oppinion, it's never boring either, he's always changin things up throughout the track

Where the vibes at. I need emotion in my music. This has no emotion.

yes still rinse this
when datsik first popped up in the dubs section you could tell he was about to blow up
I still respect him as a producer, although I rate his earlier stuff (havoc, gecko, quantization error, etc) more because it was so fresh at the time..

I got nothing but respect for Datsik and Excision because without them my city wouldn't have a dubstep scene that was worth a shit. Seeing them once is definitely worthwhile, but they come through about 3 or 4 times a year (and yet for the last two years promoters keep saying they're bringing Benga, then have to reschedule ), and some of our local DJ's (mostly the ones younger than me) pretty much play 75% Rottun tracks for their sets. I DON'T WANT TO HEAR SWAGGA 4 TIMES IN A NIGHT, ALMOST EVERY WEEK GODDAMN IT.

Agree with you on this one, first time i heard Retreat i think i just about creamed, the early few tracks were awesome and i remember one of my friends trying to tell me after listening to the nuke em ep that datsik was "Gab-Step"
I think after the first wave of Excision/Datsik tracks the sound they pioneered just started to go downhill.
12th Planet + Datsik - Texx Mars never gets tiring though.

An absolute classic. Gizmo isn't that bad for being new(ish) either.

the quality of production is always good but i think they might have already run out of ideas because every tune is starting to sound the same

agree with particlejim, i started listening to em alot with songs like Swagga and Boom but ive slowly realized that they have the tendency to make all their songs sound like clanking robots booting up and walkin around to a beat. My prime example is invaders

when it comes to the filthiest brostep I just prefer the productions of cookie monsta, I do like the odd excision and datsik tune BUT, I can't help thinking it's background music for an nintendo wii game or something.
