dubstep is a type of music, its nothing more then that.

i guess, hip hop and rock definitely have lifestyles and cultures despite "just being types of music"

other then what people are recommending here [url]last.fm[url] is a really good way of finding new stuff. its not all cutting edge but theres loads of stuff on there.

its good that you're feeling the scene but don't burn yourself out on it, look for the mixed genre nights and check the roots of dubstep. dub, reggae, garage, d'n'b, grime, jungle, techno and house. there's a very vibrant scene all over the UK for most of these things.


there is definitely more to life then dubstep though.

but would you agree that there is a dance culture where you're at?

yeah but its no different from d'n'b, jungle, techno, house etc etc etc. like you say its a dance music culture.
its all just variations of 'youth culture'. basically getting fucked and dancing in a room full of other people. the scene is no different for any genre, so the culture isnt dubsteps, its just young peoples

is there artists that the forum as a community dislike? the only reference i can make 2 the grimeforum is Big H who causes a massive divide in the forum

There is dubstep nights to be found pretty much anywhere in the UK now. Absolutely loads up north. Obviously Preston is not gonna be the hottest place for it but I just googled 'preston dubstep' and some nights / events came up.

I would presume there are early morning trains to Preston back from manc? There is a ridiculous amount of nights there (if I was at uni there I would definitely fail from distractions lol).

In terms of artists you should check...
For ones similar to what you suggested - circus records crew, sub soldiers label, rusko, 16 bit, bar 9, stenchman, Borgore (though I hate his stuff)#

Dj's not similar but equally as good/better - joker, starkey, DMZ, skream, benga, gemmy, james blake, goth trad, breakage.

your gonna have a lot of fun discovering all of these

tbh iv alway been aware of the dubstep situation but recently in like the past week the genre has swallowed me in n/h

i while out harshly when i hear te drop on this way by nero. everyone on this forum can talk properly about dubstep without people taking the piss. you should be very proud haha

dubstep is a culture in a way... but its more of a bass culture which represents many different styles of bass heavy music.

I love the mid range dubstep that's kicking about, it always gets me going, but you have to delve in and go deeper....

I love the heavy sub bass rollers with good steppy drums and nice atmospherics. Anything that Kryptic Minds produce is KWALITYYYY business.

You need to go and experience dubstep on a big rig tho... most of the older tracks need to be experienced that way.. e.g. Loefah - Goat Stare... EPIC... could only really enjoy that on a fat rig!

as for the MC's.. well i MC myself. It started off as a joke but then I started to get bookings and I took it more seriously. It's really more about hype when the time calls for it, but an MC can also add to a set with subtle vocals. I see myself as coming from the crowd and representing the crowd and my passion and love for the music seem to rub off on people. There is a very fine line between adding a nice touch to a set and just out right speaking too much shit, which a lot of MC's do..

I guess i see myself as a dubstep MC in way? I am like a dubstep library and could pretty much tell you the name of any track you let me listen to... If i don't know a track i will automatically read the sound and know when to expect a breakdown/drop etc... People ask me how i know and.. i dunno it's just pretty easy i think?

i played a dubstep night in preston a few months ago. it was at the mill. you should check out J.C Colder he's putting stuff on ad he's a cracking DJ too. there's a guy called widelows thats coming up in preston at the moment too. the scene in preston seems to be all about the aggressive stuff, so if you're not feeling that manchester is gonna be the one but i dont have any experience of that. though i'm sure others do!

i see what you mean by pickin up the sounds. i can dot hat with grime, put any tune b4 and i can break it down as well

maybe, but it has a more communal following compared with many other genres. Hip hop became a culture, but in dubstep, other then the music nothing else really matters.

unless your someone who thinks the music you listen is the best, and look down on all other genres/ subgenres,

then its all about being better then everyone else.
