I haven't got any problem with friendly flag waving... it's good to see the St George used by people who aren't racist fucks, tbh.

Having said that, the flags on cars/houses/whatever look fucking awful. It's not like the team are here to be buoyed by the support and, well, I thought supporting England was the norm... if immigrants were driving around with their homeland's flags to say "Hey, I'm different" then I'd understand it more than putting a flag on my car that says "Yep, I'm exactly as normal as you expected".

Yeah we should be have the right to put our national flag up and not be called rasict for doing it, but personally i think the whole flag thing is kinda lame.

I'll wear my brand new retro Euro 96 shirt to the pub....the new shirt is lame....but i wont be waving any flags.

We arent going to win, but i will have fun watching, and then moaning when we lose on penatlies to austrailia or sumin.

England til i die....or get bored of losing at least.

I think that if I was displaying the England flag in this country, and someone said to me that they don't like my England flag I would tell them to fuck off. That is not racism.

No but if you deliberately put it up to annoy/offend people then you probably would be. In East London at least.

If it offends people, then that is a bonus

Wearing a shirt is cool, but waving a flag around like some mug is just racist. why would you wave the flag of your own country in the country itself, seems kind of redundant to me unless you want to make a (racist) point

This whole thread reeks of ignorance and generalisation.

If I followed football, supported a team. I would put that flag up regardless. I live in a part of London with a lot of Polish & Asians, I would not be putting my flag up to offend them, if they got offended that's their problem. I'm not going to go to France and complain that they have French flags there.

Its ok to be proud of where your from, its part of your identity. Where you are born is part of you. Just because someone claims proud to be British/English doesn't mean they're racist.

Waving a flag isn't racist. Ironically, people saying that are the ones that are manifesting the idea... England's flag represents England and it's members. Last time I checked, plenty of 'ethnic minorities' are technically 'English' and thus just as much a part of 'England' and the flag as everyone else

Saying it's racist is counterproductive, and just shows that deep down in your mind, you're the one with the separative outlook incapable of classing different cultures as 'England'

Fuck y'all morons, clueless anti-racist campaigns are as a big a source of fuel as clueless racist campaigns

im saying why would you represent the flag of your own country in your own country it doesnt make sense. i understand wearing a shirt. but a flag is a symbol it has a lot more meaning and connotations than a shirt. armies wave their flag when they go to war in another country, and they dont even do that anymore.

if i was to go area i just saw england flags posted up everywhere. to me thats a sinister message and i wouldnt stay too long

whereas if i saw some lads walking down the street wearing england shirts, i would be like yesss lads and keep walking.

wearing an england shirt is like wearing a dmz t shirt its just representing yourself, wearing an england shirt in england is a bit like wearing a dmz shirt to dmz, i dont think its lame it just shows youre really into it. another thing the england football team shirt is directly linked to FOOTBALL. whereas a flag is vague it could mean any number of things, remember its a powerful symbol, why do you think people still represent these england flags when its not world cup?

just look at the american flag and what kind of people over there use it, theyve even got a specific flag for racist use (confederate flag)

How the fuck have you come to this conclusion?

If anyone is offended by my flag, then good because I do not have time or care for for petty / stupid people like that.

Fuck the PC parade aswell, you're worse than the racists.

Prrrrty much.

Flags aren't racist any more than having white skin or a British passport is racist... of course some stnuc are racist, but then some stnuc walking around in Hyperdub t shirts are racist deep down... you just can't make those sort of sweeping assumptions.

People from all ethnic backgrounds are represented by the English flag so by definition it isn't a racial symbol... I can see how it might be argued for xenophobia, but then... I mean, the World Cup is a fucking competition... it's not the Junior Special Olympics where everyone's a fucking winner and nobody's allowed to enjoy their guys being better than the others.... one country will be crowned BEST AT FOOTBALL within a month and they're perfectly within their rights to remind everyone about it for a while.

Unless they're Portuguese, obviously.
