Call me a hater but Reaggeton...NO! Didn't like it when it first came around.. and my opinion hasn't changed.
I didn't do research so maybe I'm wrong but it comes to me as the most UNoriginal musical genre ever created...
I like Dancehall especially the old stuf, and the same goes for Salsa but if this is what came out of it... thats not evolution in my book..

The thing that annoys me about it is that they call it Reggaeton, as they've created a new genre. It's just Dancehall with a Latin twist. If they had just called it "Latin Dancehall", I wouldn't have much of problem with it.

p.s. it's really quite different to dancehall, that's just one of the influences. And the fact that when it began it followed a kick drum and snare pattern from a dancehall riddim quite slavishly doesn't really mean that it's all just dancehall.

If you think the difference between Garage and Dubsep is the same as the difference between Dancehall and Reggaeton, then there's something wrong with you.

The beat is pretty much the same. I don't see what they've done that's new other than sing in Spanish.

Used 2 go 2 school in Florida where i lived with a couple of Puerto Rican's,
and the only thing i heard was reggaeton (and reggae of course).
see back then the sounds were still fresh and the scene was growing steadily,
however afta going bak 2 the States a few weeks ago ive seen an upsetting transition of the music which kinda relates 2 commercial U.S Rap.
Most (obviously not all) producers tend 2 copy each other now and are only interested in the profits they make off their tunes (i.e. why u c reggaeton mc's hooking up with AMerican gangster rappers!!).
also spoke 2 my mate who moved back 2 Puerto Rico n he tells me the people who really loved the music from a while ago are growing sick of it,
and theres only a select few artists who still have gd tunes coming out!
ANyways theres my personal knowledge of the genre, which still gets me hopping around when listening to it

although i always wished i knew exactly what they were saying!!!!

A different take

(what the fuck is this) ha ha.. its funny... they are use to their norteno ranchero and reggaeton music.

My girlfriend is half dominican, half puerto rican, although she really thinks reggaetone is garbage for the most part, then again her music selection is not in the latin norm...obviously there is some select tunes out there somewhere (I haven't heard any)...
From what I can gather about the genre, it is basically wanna-be reggae/dancehall, with guys singing in spanish, and throwing American pop/crunk-rap influences onto it. Oh , and they really do never change the beat either. Sounds like it's all about pleasing the masses.
from whoever said that, at least house changes the SOUNDS of the percussion, and listen to broken beat (house) and tribal house, tons of variation. I have yet to hear a reggaetone song that didn't use the exact same percussion sample as the last.
