A good mixdown is all you need to do to combat the sub/kick eq clash problem, we normally use more than one kick... one for low end punch, one for mid range presence... we really have no set way of working, for us, if there is a problem with anything we like to try a few different solutions and then just use the one that sounds the best... The sound on sound website is a great place to read up on issues that arise alot as people will always have had to deal with these problems before you and have worked out good ways to get round problems... we cant stress enough that reading articles from real professionals is the key to getting a nice clean phat sound... but dont be afraid to break the rules or experiment with the parameters that they give you as they are generally talking about problems with live recordings and not sequenced tracks...
Hope this helps.

Yeah sorry man, tbh its very difficult to give advice when we aint heard the tracks and heard what problems you are having... feel free to send a download link to a clip of the track and we'll take a listen if we have got the time...
Honestly, there is no 'one' quick fix solution... its all about what you think sounds best...

I also noticed that you guys are making alot of deep tunes lately

what do you guys prefer when producing a track:

a jump up midrange party crasher or deep mellow tracks

We all started making drum and bass together and now make everything from Drum and Bass, Dubstep, Hip Hop, House, Reggae and Ambient...

When making Dubstep it all depends on what we have been listening to or doing the night b4... there is no way any of us wants to make filth if we have been on the beers the night b4... but then saying that it has been known to happen...

More than anything we will either make a drum track and decide what will work over it best or we find a vocal sample to use or find a sample for a hook and it all just goes from there... we very rarely sit down and think about what we are gonna make b4 we start and we think this is the best way to go as it lets the track emerge naturally... theres no point in trying to force something and sometimes we will find that we will just shit can whatever we are working on and just start again...
If you aint got the drums, main hook and bass done in the first session, it probably aint worth finishing...

hah this sounds really familiar, sometimes I want to make a club banger and I end up with a deep ambient kinda track

Our advice is... if you want to make a banger, make drums that sound like they wouldn't be out of place in a stadium rock band, big, loud, clean hits... then the pattern shouldn't matter too much... from there, you wont be able to think of ambient melodies... you'll only have tearout synth bassface woibble melodies in ya head... get the notes down and then worry about what sound ya gonna use... SIMPLES.

We leave the studio alone, smoke weed, play computer, chat shit to each other, go down the pub... anything but make tunes... for instance, I haven't made a track for at least 2 months... just either cant be arsed or just aint got the time... its not about how many tracks you make its about making the right ones... Time away from the studio is just as important as time in the studio... Gonna be getting back in the studio in the next few days tho as we have some remix work to get finished... few exclusives and vip's and a couple for some very talented vocalists... so watch out...

Yeah, tell us more about your own label? Are you going to release only your own material or other people's music too? :)

HA HA, nice one... its all still in the planning stages... but you can expect music from Us as well as original music and remixes from a whole host of established producers we are feeling and a fresh bunch of producers we are going to be bringing through...

We haven't decided if we are going to have split 12's or straight up artist 12's and we are gonna work out if we need to have another label to keep the dark and deep stuff seperate... its all very exciting... we are gonna be putting a release schedule together in the next few months so watch this space...
