the fact that such stripped down music can completely suck me in. it's a vibe thing

I can't really explain it but I'm never very good at stuff like that.
i guess that helps to explain why it hasnt sucked me in too much, cos my only experience thus far is with 1 minute mp3 clips, which for this kind of thing is obviously inappropriate.
do you know much Chain Reaction? if so, how do you think it fares relative to that? (thats an open question for anyone with an opinion)

Infrared Glow EP is actually produced by someone else, but released under the Sleeparchive name. So probably not the most representative.

I'll go with Ben UFO's recommendation of singles over double packs, but my favourites are Research EP and Recycle EP. So check 'em all out.

The economy of expression, and the fact that each track is stripped down to the bare minimum required to be absolutley relentless. Plus I really love all those bleep noises.
Edit: Shit, didn't read page 2 before I replied. Seems we all like the same things...

I prefer it to Chain Reaction stuff. But they aren't really all that comparable, Sleeparchive is pushing a far more limited aesthetic to them. They have what, 30+ releases? That much Sleeparchive would be far too much, as he's producing a very specific sound. That's why my 'I like the bleeps' is slightly less flippant than usual. That bleep sound is pretty much just Sleeparchive (Though he ripped it off ø, but that's about it).
That new Substance & Vainquer stuff is pretty great though.

I love chain reaction but it's totally different music. If you were to ask me what I like about chain reaction I'd say something very similar to what I said about sleeparchive, but that doesn't make the music very similar hehe.. one of the reasons I can't seem to find an appropriate linguistic method for describing what I like about music.

Oh and I've mentioned my love for those Net28 stuff (CMYK, Cyclical Tracks, Apnea, etc) many times, but Damian Schwartz fucking kills it on this record:

Very Sleeparchive, but also a little bit Alex Under. Nice.

yeh i can see what you mean, especially having just listened to clips of those earlier 12s. chain reaction is much more textural, ambient and dubbed out, i hadnt at all clocked how hard Sleeparchive is. also had in my head that his sound was much less crisp, more layered etc. strange. feeling a couple of these though fo sho
that damien schwarz is heavy, very deep but still hammering

sleeparchive have done a little textural stuff too..

Of course, like most dance music, this stuff only makes total sense in a loud club / rave / etc.

Perfick.
I may try and change my megabus booking for DMZ and come to this as well. I could even do bangface on the Friday as well, but that's probably a really bad idea. 10 hours of DMZ will be hard enough as it is.

this benga tune is live. the arpeggio is beautiful. i hope this (and the likes of 2d) is a sign of where skream and he are moving with that project they alluded to on the breezeblock.
and the words "this is just a prototype at the moment" are exciting

I don't really get 2D. It's evidence that skream is still bursting with ideas though

Think I need to listen to it a few more times. This benga tune was a lot more immediate anyway.

Evil Tune...a bit tooo evil

these tunes are boring.
sleeparchive is hilariously overrated. he's an OK Sahko/DBX tribute act (eg check
this,
this and
this). nothing more, nothing less. should have given up after zzz-03.

I think tribute act is a little harsh. It's true that he is entirely copying the early Sahko sound, but I never said he was original. If there were hundreds of Sahko 'tribute acts' out there you could claim he is "hilariously overrated", but he's pretty much the only person making tunes in that minimalist bleep aesthetic at the moment (ø included). Feel free to correct me if there are others, I don't know of any.
Also, 'originality' aside, his stuff is just as good as the records you posted.

hmm I don't think 'tribute' has to be viewed so harshly. I definitely don't think sleeparchive is terrible, I just don't get the hype for every single record he releases. seems like he made his point a long time ago.
also, for what it's worth, I'd definitely take the Vaino tracks over the sleeparchive. even though they're clinical too, there's something less restrained/well sanded about them.
it's not the 'bleep' aesthetic at all but i highly recommend that CH-Signal Laboratories 12" from a few weeks back. side A is superb.

The Sleeparchive hype is a little excessive I suppose. You could maybe attribute it to the fact that the ø stuff was groundbreaking, but never really copied at the time. So many people discovered it years later (I think Hawtin's DE9:Transitions turned most people onto it, leading to the recent represses / Boomkat feature etc) and were disapointed that there had been nothing like it for almost a decade. Then Sleeparchive turns up and everyone gets excited because they thought they'd missed it. That's kind of how I felt when I first heard his stuff anyway.
Interestingly (maybe), dubstep had a similar effect on me, as it reminded me alot of the brief Bleep n Bass thing around 91. Though obviously the bleep n Bass -> Dubstep link is a
little less of a direct link than ø -> Sleeparchive.

Also, I guess some people don't know the Sahko stuff at all, in which case Sleeparchive is producing a unique sound entirely worthy of the hype.
Anyway, moving on. That CH-Signal Laboratories is great. Sounds like Spastik played underwater or something. I know nothing about it to be honest, I just heard it on Juno while browsing new releases a while back and bought it straight away. Do you know anything about them?
Not related in terms of the bleeps, but another perfect example of the kind of distilled relentlessness that I love about Sleeparchive (and the Vaino stuff as well, of course).

general consensus is Ch-Sig Lab... is Sleeparchive. I tend to agree because it left me cold like sleeparchive stuff generally does.

by 4linehaiku
Oh I see. That would explain why Resolved mentioned it. And also why I like the same kind of things about it as I do Sleeparchive. Interesting that he put it out under another alias, the Sleeparchive name reserved only for the bleep stuff? He used to do IDM stuff too, so I guess he's only pretending to be a one trick pony.

speaking of the burgeoning tech/dub movement and the more overt references that minimal techno-y folks are beginning to make to a dubstep sound, anyone feeling those substance remixes of monolake from a while back?
absolutely loving those...
