haha me too, and then I think about the name kimbo slice for some reason..followed by that entourage preview where they used this songcityzen wrote:Up until this point, I have always read their name as Mount Kimble.
Regardless, they make beautiful music.
dude, look at the tracklist to the mix in your sig, judging from that it's pretty obvious that you wouldn't really be into this style of dubstep...truefiktion wrote:its the sub genre of dubstep I just dont like

Agreed. I can see the link between Scuba and Mount Kimbie but not Hyperdub. Can never imagine Kode 9 signing them. Don't have that 'difference' I think he wants in every new act.elibomyekip wrote:What have Mount Kimbie got to do with Hyperdub?truefiktion wrote:Dont rate Mount Kimbie highly or most of the Hyperdub label except Zomby and Joker realeases...its the sub genre of dubstep I just dont like

yes, and its come to the same groundbreaking conclusion that different people like DIFFERENT THINGSstring wrote:Isn't this the 'Is James Blake Overrated' thread all over again
What is with these shit-stirring threads? It has little to do with the artist whether or not blogs/magazines/boards give them hype, stop trying to tear down great music cuz you don't think it deserves the "hype". Mount Kimbie is a couple kids making soulful dubstep, it's not Rusko trying to be the biggest artist in the world or something (no offense Rusko), so hype really has nothing to do with it. Listen to the album and talk about the music. In my opinion, Crooks and Lovers is a breakthrough album, and I may be wrong, but I don't know of anyone else doing those pitched-up vocals in that way. It's mesmerizing to have someone singing a melody where you can only make out a few syllables. Carbonated is a fuckin dazzler.64hz wrote:yes, and its come to the same groundbreaking conclusion that different people like DIFFERENT THINGSstring wrote:Isn't this the 'Is James Blake Overrated' thread all over again![]()

Yeah they don't sound like anything I've heard on Hyperdub at all beyond the fact that their music is a little deeper than your average tune. That's like comparing DMZ to Kode9 because neither of them trend towards mid-range basslines.elibomyekip wrote:What have Mount Kimbie got to do with Hyperdub?truefiktion wrote:Dont rate Mount Kimbie highly or most of the Hyperdub label except Zomby and Joker realeases...its the sub genre of dubstep I just dont like

not to argue your side rant point too much but in alot of instances that is the case. i consider myself to have some pretty open musical tastes as well , but not everyone does. alot of kids out there have no idea about great music that was before their time and they have trouble understanding musical context.twentyOneDummies wrote:Yeah they don't sound like anything I've heard on Hyperdub at all beyond the fact that their music is a little deeper than your average tune. Side rant: I hate it when fans of certain music pull the "you're not mature enough" card to defend their taste. It's just as bad as "girls like it in the club" or "it's made to be heard on a loud system". I listen to everything from free jazz to psych-rock to Hip-Hop to rare soul records and back. If I find Kimbie to be a little sleepy, it's not because I'm some 15 year old kid hopped up on skittles and redbull while playing X-Box, I just prefer my tunes (even my deep tunes) a little harder. That LHF EP on Keysound is a great example.
