wut? I agree scream is good, but not nearly as good as ohmicide by ohm force. Also, i personally think from experience with many many different reverbs, hardware and soft, that the RV7000 sounds like ass
"RV7000 sounds like ass"..... HAHAHA. I beg to differ. You must have having a laff. Ok, yes there are very good reverb unit's out there, not doubting that, i have acknowledged that. However, come on the RV is up there man. Multi use...

ohmicide? That's the multi band one right ? Not personally used it my self, but it looks impressive. Although, the scream unit is more then just a distortion unit, it can be used for many other functions to. It's just stated as distortion unit, as very general term for the unit. It can be used for other setting to, i.e if you want abit of saturation, use the tap setting then.. ect. It can even be slightly used on a master. (for abit of warmth, analog feel) Now, am petty sure you would not apply ohmicide to your mater, no matter how trivial you want the effect to be

One more thing, what practical use if there for the ohmicide unit, other then the YAYA baselines? Very gernal term, yes i know. However, i can't seem to think of any other use's, or where i would personally apply that unit?
Yes ohmicide is a multi-band distortion unit. It has several features apart from the obvious distortion models. For example, it also has noise gates, compressors and a whole feedback-loop system to create some gnar.
As for its uses, it excels in a few areas... Its not a jack of all trades, it does a few things verrrry well, and as i said i have other specific plugins for saturation and tape emulation etc..
Some examples are presets used for electric bass, guitar, vocals, drums and of course synths and other textures. Thinking that it just does "YAYA" basses is an oversight. Want to trim that distortion back? it has a dry/wet setting for each band and then one for the whole thing. Flexability is key. and with Screams 2 parameters (excluding the amp simulation), i really don't see how it stands up to it.

Just for creativity's sake (not saying its very practical), have a peep at this using feedback loops (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q3uE5ZXWtQ4)

Why dont you download the demo and see for yourself?. Because without trying any of these things you cant realistically hold a valid argument. And it would be the same for me, except i used reason from version 2 thru till 4 until i got logic on a student discount.

And no i would not add this to my master, again i have other specific designed plugins made for this, not one thrown into a 'multi effect distortion unit'.
Like i said, me saying it's just used for YAYA baselines is a abit of a generalised statement. Hence, why i asked what other sources can it be apply to.

The feedback loop was petty impressive, i don't see it as a personal function for me to use, nevertheless, i can see it be used by other.

Regarding the noise gating: i found this video.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aQSzoXwD ... re=related

Didn't seem to be working the best, the final sound sounded quite awful. The drumloop sounded fine to be without it. Althogh, to be fair, it was not the best example.

I most liked this video, using the unit in it's full entirety. I shall download the demo, and then make my full judgement on the unit, in comparison with scream

Thats what i wanted to hear, because you cant defend or praise a piece of software (or plugin) without making comparisons. Like me saying RV7000 sounded like ass, because to me it does compared to the other reverbs I have used. But if thats the only reverb that you use regularly you become accustomed to its sound, and prefer it over others because your ears have adjusted to the way it sounds.

Well, like you said, a full judgement can not be made until you have tried both products at hand. I have used the RV700 extensively, but not the other unit. Indeed, you become accustom to it then, hence the need to try out other units as well. I shall try it out, on various things and see what i make of it. Looking forward to the dry/wet knob, something i have always waited for in Reason.

Got to allays be trying new other to keep up with the game

Get Ferox VST, it's free too, and fat as hell.

Thanks for the tip. I've tried it already though, and I found that it wasn't nearly as good in my experience...much more subtle overall, but too harsh when pushed past that. That being said, I still use it from time to time :)

yeah the bootsy one is even subtler! use that one as well, although for completely different reasons (often to take the edge off the highs in something i'm distorting)

Fair play. You tried the audiodamage fuzzplus? Quite mellow but its still a distortion rather than a tape sim.

AD's fuzz doesn't come close to the quality of scream, imo.

Think your right imo, not found many uses for it except fuzzing guitars and the like. Btw have you tried Camel crusher? its free and i really like the sound of the tube distortion on it.

I use reason's Scream4 device for changing up the attack portion of a wobble or synth line. If you use it on a synth with a unique attack phase and use the body settings, you can get some pretty wild effects.

yeah I think I use Camel Crusher more than any other distortion...I've tried demos of pay distortions and I've found I can usually get a better result from Camel Crusher!

Anybody tried Camel Phat? It's the full version of Camel Crusher...been thinking about getting it for a while since I don't really love any of the distortions provided by Cubase (or any free ones I've tried)

also regarding reverb, I always hear people talking about Epicverb, but for some reason I'm no good at getting it to sound good. I think I just need more practice with it, as I'm not used to that kind of interface. Strangely enough, I've found Glaceverb and Mverb to be pretty damn good though, especially for free ones!
