Because our culture is over-exposed to bullshit rumors about how bad drinking water is for us.

Plus we're far more 'on the go' than european countries and work far more hectic hours. Bottled, packaged, 'to go' type things fit our culture more. I'll likely work 16 hours today... if I take my hour lunch it means i'll be working an extra hour to make up the time. Spending $4 on a bottled water and a sandwich from the roach coach makes more sense than wasting an hour of my time going out and eating lunch.

We don't stop and eat like most countries.... we eat/drink while doing something else or on our way to something etc etc.

not sure what you mean, Brita filters dont cost £1000 each, theyre about £17 for 3, which if you ask me is very expensive. I meant your clay thing sounds intriguing because it might do the same job for better value.

You can get a filter installed on the pipe into your house...that auto filters all water.

Now THAT costs a grand or so...

my parents are on a major 'impurity' kick these past few years and had a 'reverse osmosis filtration system' installed at their home.

I don't see why you should filter your tap water at home though, unless you live 100 miles away from the water supply.

Well..around here we have really hard (chalky) water....So people filter to soften it.

We have a filter for that too, but just to protect the washing machine etc. Chalk doesn't bother me in drinking water.

At least for the US, our country is relatively massive. How water is filtrated differs from city to city, county to country, state to state. The water in Dallas tastes insanely different than the water in Austin. I grew up on Dallas water, i can tolerate it. Austin tap water makes me want to vomit.

Pretty standard to just slap something on the faucet and get a relatively neutral taste.

Nobody in my town drinks the tap water, it makes people sick. Not like, dying sick. But definitely poopy/pukey

yeh i learned that pretty quickly after talking to locals after i moved here... i have a Pur filter on my sink, and i have a katadyn portable filter and UV wand for on the go / traveling to other countries
