actually

here is a transcript of one of my encounters:

*phone rings*

ME - "Hello this is JJ"

TM - "I'm calling from corporate about the copier you have in the office"

ME - "No you aren't calling from corporate and our Xerox is fully automated and orders it's own supplies, I am tired of you calling and trying to scam us"

*I hang up*

*phone rings*

TM - "JJ why did you hang up on me? that was rude"

ME - "actually, rude is calling me taking up my time and lying saying you are from my parent corporate office"

*telemarketer hangs up on me*

Sureley they have to make a certain number of calls a day, shouting at them and hanging up probably counts as a call for them. It probably annoys them more when someone is acutally interested and makes them take a load of info and fill in forms and shit.

But if calling someone you don't know in a different country a tnuc down the phone makes you feel like you have a big willy then go for it.

i used to do telesales... cold calling people trying to sell burglar alarms... one of the most soul destroying jobs i ever did... got £5.80 an hour and £30 commission for every sale (peanuts, considering the system cost £250 to instal; and £30 pcm to monitor)... roughyl ten times a day youd get some old biddy on the phone whod go along with all your questions and say yes to purchasing it, so i just had to pretend id got a wrong number and hang up, couldnt sell it to them.

in two months i sold two alram systems. i elf tthat job to do door-to-door sales for talktalk. again, one of the worst jobs ever... some people were making £600 a week in the job, but they stnuc to ppl, real hard sell, no morals... did that for one month, then left to return to uni. have not done sales since, and never will do.

whilost telesales ppl are just doing their job, alot are utter stnuc, and theres plenty of other lines of work they could be in. if you need a shit job desperately, do basic admin or something....

ive done a lot of telemarketing, generally it based stuff

if its your personal number, ie not business related (phone companies, windows etc) simply say you are not 18

if its busiess related simply say i am not the relevant decision maker and this company has a no name policy.

if you want them never to call again say we are signed up to the do not call registry

it is illegal for telemarkers to call these numbers. they will probably delete you off their database

just please dont be rude, they are just average people. you wouldnt call someone on the street a tnuc or tell em to fuck off to their face, why do it on the phone.

My time is worth more than they are willing to offer, so I don't give them any.
Why waste time on both ends. I just hang up.

Usually telemarkting sales people are selling scams, it's never a fair deal or what they say it is.

I wouldn't rip people other people off to win my bread i'd find another way - stnuc.
