if you want to get to the bottom of sleep paralysis, watching a bbc documentary is the last thing you want to do :D

Yeah but an interesting documentary is always nice to watch. It might lead you to go look up something else as well.

The BBC loves you.

the bbc hates me
bbc documentaries rot the mind

what i don't get about a lot of people's viewpoints on sleep paralysis is that they're convinced they are hallucinating...

like surely you would spontaneously hallucinate more regularly, not just at night? without any drugs or anything?
just showing how this viewpoint doesn't make any sense, yet people still accept it as they can't begin to fathom what really is going on with sleep paralysis as it will shake the whole foundations of their very reality :)

Yeah. I don't see how anyone is convinced of anything though. I expect a fair few people do "hallucinate" at any time without drugs. They just dismiss it.

How do you know what you're seeing is the hallucination?

never had this thank god

but i've had times where i've had a fever and i go delirious- couple of times i've woken up in the middle of the night when i've had a fever with feelings of extreme anxiety and fear and everything around me seems 'big', similar to the feeling of vertigo and i've freaked out, then in the morning i can hardly remember any of it like it was part of a dream. don't think it was sleep paralysis because i was able to move around.

if they dismiss it, they'll dismiss it as a hallucination

saw a ghost, bollocks, i was tripping balls on nothing apparently

going to sleep last night, felt this horrible presence in the room and couldn't move, also saw demons too
but i was just tripping out man

I get it once a week but doesn't get easier each time, sometimes it comes with a high pitch rise just before it hits me, then I shake of what I think are insects from my body and each time is as worst as the last. Doctors have advised me to goto bed earlier and wake up earlier doesn't seem to help.

Yeah. Everyone likes to be able to understand and explain. Nobody likes to be left in the dark.

Had it fairly recently.

Felt like something was sitting on me and strangling me. Stopped being able to breath a second. Didn't like it

My thoughts on the "hallucinations" are that they're just a mix between what's going on in your dreamworld and reality. Your eyes may be open and information coming through, but your mind is still stuck in dream world whilst your body fights to come out of paralysis. Not dismissing any other ideas, just makes the most sense to me.

Experienced so much of this over the years. Which has mainly been down to a messed up sleepin pattern due to caning it at the weekends.

Sometimes get that buzzing real bad, like someones attached jump leads to either side of my head then set them off. Seen all sorts of scary creatures kickin about my room or coming hurtling towards me. Even though its terrifying at the time, i'm glad i've experienced it, its fascinating.

What I love is when you realise you're experiencing sleep paralysis so you know you are dreaming, so you try not to panic and instead manage to roll yourself into a lucid dream. And thats where the fun starts. Always end up flying around the city or out to the edge of the universe and back, and it feels so fucking real! Quality entertainment.

Yeah had this a few times myself. I can only sleep on my side and you defo can get it that way.

Im not sure if im actually awake or if im dreaming that i think im awake. But it does always feel like there is somebody else there. Have only had it about 4-5 times ever but it is freaky at the time. They always happened at random times tho, with no common reasons for it.

Yeah i have has this a few times, where my whole body is numb and there is nothing i can do. I've just learnt to embrace it, anc i find myself fallping back asleep unawares. However it does leave me with a few aches in places, so i put it down to something to do with my nervous system and how i sleep, instead of sny malevolent force.

Any of you ever had it where the ugly old hag appears and screams in your face?

Quite a common thing people see. And scary as fuck :(

(This pic is the closest i could find to her.)
