Mate this is some of the best poetry I've read in a while; when you publishing?
Seriously though, wtf is "post-breakstep"? :? Nevermind a reincarnation of it?

I thought the question was quite clear whilst leaving space for interpretation but I'll waste a few words to explain:

Loefah's coming out here for 3rd (?) time soon, playing with Breakage.
I appreciate his early stuff, such as Bombay Squad, which I think of as after breakstep
but last time here (08?) he was the first to play relentlessness.
I understand he lost interest in ds for awhile so I'm wondering, particularly in company with Breakage,
whether his set could rep the earlier sound or at least go deep & garagey.
Of recent gigs, imo, this one has potential to reset the aggenda.
a lot of people have been saying his sets are more house orientated recently

i think this is more likely to carry on than with the breakier stuff

thanks for the feedback & ^ mix
I've had a nap & a wash
& now feel a bit hypocritical cos i value clear communication
but I needed some input into half-formulated ideas
about loefah's progress being influential
& where that might draw from

ah, now I have a bit of time, I'll comment on this:

It's very clear what you mean because of the format
so I'll take that as a compliment
but I don't understand how you drew the inference
that i thought breakstep sprung up in 2006
when Loefah's dubstep releases in 04 obviously predate that
and built on turn of the century breaks/garage cross-influences.

Just as you expect Loefah to be making funky,
so i hope he will revisit dark garage/early dubstep sounds.

I don't pretend to write poetry but i do sometimes pretend to be willfully ignorant,
particularly if it stirs the grumpy & closed-minded.
And I reserve the right to suggest an idea without fully prescribing it
cos interaction/ conversation is about giving my mind a chance to change.
Maybe it's like putting out a riff or outlining a tune & seeing what others do with it.

I can imagine that poets can't avoid writing poetically
despite people calling them pretentious.
Must be like composers trying not to hear music

:t: have a good lie down mate.

so, back on topic;
if Loefah's playing at an oestensibly dubstep/grime night
is he really gunna play house?
or does he have another transformation in store?

Why don't you just check out his tunes and judge what he actually drops instead of trying to divine his next moves like he's some extra-human esoteric prophet?

i'm definitely with you though, sd5. some moody future garage with a loefah spin would be magic

Loefah doesn't compromise so yeah even if the rest of the bill is 'traditional' dubstep, you can expect house/funky beats for the best part of the set.

it's usually around the 120-130-135 bpm's I'd say so it's danceable and there's still a lot of bass. I absolutely like it.
If you're lucky enough he might finish with an old DMZ/Tectonic plate of his :)

Martelo Rethink is usually his closer now though.

Lol, you guys!

Sorry if I came off harsh, sd, but what you call "left open for interpretation" felt just like "vagueness for sake of pseudo-intellectualism" imho

On the real tho, loefah has always said that he doesn't really like garage, so don't hold your breath for some "future" garage...

His boiler room set is fantastic, if you haven't checked it out

listen to the B.Low Barcelona set, that'll give you a good idea of Loefah's recent sets and sound,

He is one of the most exciting DJ's at the moment as his sound is reflective of his tastes and his label output,
He's not stuck in one sound and it seems weird to expect that he would play Jah War/Ruffage/heavy halfstep sound for ever?

That B.Low birthday set is sweet. I got it on CD in the car. Never gets old.

As i understand he's very much into uk funky these days. My mates who heard him at outlook told me so and his newest mix also sounds that way. Would like it better if he keeps to his old style, but you can't hate on somebody just because their style changes.

There is very little relationship between Loefah's house sets and uk funky apart from the odd tune. He's is carving out something that is quite different to my ears.

The Swamp81 sound that Loefah is pushing has more in common with 80's electro boogie like Arabian Prince, Africa Bambaataa etc than funky in my opinion. His set at Outlook was amazing. Whatever he plays, I doubt you'll be disappointed.

He's a bit of a mystery isn't he. Read his interview with Kryptic Minds on Blackdowns blog. Takes about an hour to read but its really really interesting.
