I get the feeling that for some, its becoming knee jerk reaction (if it has not already) to dislike Magnetic Man because of any commercial success, and for fears of taking dubstep from the hands of the underground...

I personally think exposure is good for the genre and taking it to the masses most probably means more variation and young aspiring producers getting involved with UK Bass music. All the usual suspects are still gonna around making hard ass beats, halfstep and all the traditional styles but hopefully that pool of producers will just increase which means more releases for everyone.

It's people like Skream who have taken Dubstep to a worldwide level which has lead to us being spoilt for choice with some of the freshest beats coming from places as far-a-field as New Zealand (TRUTH!!).

For just lads from the ends like Skream n benga who started off making dirty garage/ dubstep on their Playstations I think it wicked they have come so far and got a music artform that was born and bred in london breaking the charts (like 10 weeks in top 10 for Katy B on a Mission?!!) in a way that Drum n Bass never really managed.

Not massively feelin this one but think they have rolled out some bangers recently, big up skream benga and artwork...

no offence to you, but it's also a knee-jerk reaction to anyone who doesn't like it to say they're just saying it because it's commercial now and they don't wanna seem un-cool or some shit like that.

i personally love all types of music, popular or underground, it's just this isn't that great in my ears, i can see why some would like it, but on the whole it's way to glossy and cheesy sounding for i.

Benga + Man on a mission = Well respected dubstep tune.
Benga + Man on a mission + vocals from Katy B = POP music.

Its almost like with the addition of the vocal the original dubstep tune is totaly dis-credited. Yeah i agree 100% that the tune has been rinsed and i can barely handle listening to it but just because its been rinsed on the mainstream circuit doesnt mean its no longer dubstep...

Same goes for this tune at the start of this thread.

Take away the vocals its a very solid dubstep tune. I think if there wasnt any success had by Magnetic Man people would be alot slower to bash them.

Before I say anything, I just want to say that I respect the music that Skream and Benga are making and if anyone deserves to hit the mainstream it's them. They have been there since day one after all, both with a consistently good output. This just doesn't do anything for me though, same goes for Outside The Box, and although I've not heard the rest of the Magnetic Man album, the two singles have definitely put me off. Nothing to do with it being on the radio or in the mainstream, I just don't really like it.

take away the vocals and it's a mediocre dubstep tune, very obvious chord progression, bland beat, generic wobbling and cheesy lead synths.

works very well as a tune for the radio or whatever, but there are a lot of reasons why it's not that appealing to me, nothing at all to do with who made it or it being 'commercial' - respect to them for getting on the radio and a massive tour with a giant glowing box

Thats pretty much what solid means... thats not really what my point was all about if im completely honest. My point was, the foundation of the tune behind the vocals is dubstep. They havent changed any production qualities to be branded mainstream. Simply the addition of a vocal and if you ask me I dont think a vocal alone is enough to totally transform something that was completely dubstep into a complete pop song. Benga has always had the same style, probably always will have the same style but its only really now people decide to jump on his back. (btw i am well aware magnetic man is a trio before any smart arse points that out).

How old is pleasure now? thats not its some kind of recent transformation. Look at most tracks from Diary of an afro warrior, still incorporates most of those styles in the music he makes today.
