jazzamataz wrote:A couple of noob questions:

Why are you sometimes asked to confirm credit card details for apps that are supposed to free.

When using wifi are there any hidden roaming charges?

When you 'close' an internet page using the button at the bottom the page disappears but when you open the page again the content opens exactly as it was when it was closed. Does this mean the page is still connected to the internet while temporarily closed and therefor is it still charging you for browsing?

a) you're not connecting to itunes/app store correctly.

b) no - you're using your wifi and not your 3g.

c) It's saved to the cache on safari so when you close the app, it still saves the web page,
so next time you open safari, it goes straight there.
If you want to get rid of the page you have to hit the double window icon and close it
manually.[/quote]

Thanks for answering mate.

With regards to my first question, im sure I am connecting correctly as it is exactly the same way I connected when downloading the free apps before this message popped up. Now I cant download any free apps without it telling me to confirm my purchase and card details. :?

here's a bunch of apps i've gotten a lot of use out of, for the iPod and iPad. they're all paid apps, and some of them require additional (client) software to be installed on your PC, so read the descriptions to make sure your OS is supported.

the entire iTouchMIDI suite is good for wifi MIDI control:

http://www.itouchmidi.com/?q=node/283

iXY is a simple wifi MIDI XY controller app:

http://www.cmsoftwaredesigns.com/site/i ... &Itemid=59

TouchOSC is a HIGHLY customizable, but rather advanced wifi MIDI interface app:

http://hexler.net/software/touchosc

BeatMaker is a good mobile music production app that supports import/export for samples and MIDI:

http://www.intua.net/products.html

iTeleport is a remote desktop (VNC) app that i've gotten good use out of, more so with the iPad, but it works for iPhone also:

http://www.iteleportmobile.com/

MobileMouse lets you use your iPod as a trackpad to control your PC's mouse:

http://mobilemouse.com/

GoodReader is the best app i've found for managing/viewing my ebook library (pdf), but it supports a bunch of other file formats and has an FTP server feature that comes in handy:

http://www.goodiware.com/goodreader.html

AirSharing is a well-built filestorage/wifi ftp server:

http://avatron.com/apps/air-sharing

FTPOnTheGo is a mobile FTP client:

http://www.ftponthego.com/

Rooms is a rather robust IRC client:

http://www.roomsapp.mobi/blog/

pTerm is a fully loaded telnet/ssh client:

http://www.instantcocoa.com/products/pTerm/

iNet Pro is a quick and dirty network scanner utility. Comes in handy to see other devices on a local network, and includes a portscanner:

Awesome thread.

Erm - ones that havn't been listed.

Airmouse - gotta install something on your laptop, but basically turns it into a touchpad/remote.
Remote - A more advanced remote when it comes to iTunes.

Get everything done from bed!
