I've never found anything else that comes close to the joys of music really. I took up producing after I began to tire of being in bands that never clicked in terms of style or vision etc.
It's also extremely theraputic for me. Feel angry? Make a tune. Feel happy? Make a tune. Feel sad? Make a tune - I'll always feel good or better when it comes out right

Alternatively, when I find myself unable to make anything, due to having no inspiration, creative drive or just suffering from a bout of Anhedonia, it's really fucking difficult. It really is very depressing when I can't get anything out... And, for some reason, that just makes me think
"well if I'm getting this messed up over not being able to then there must be some reason that I'm making it in the first place.."
Then, you get an email like this:
My ex and I are fans of yours, have been for a while. I don't even know him anymore, but that is how you and I crossed paths. And for that, I'm very thankful.
I would love it if you would mail me an album. I would be happy to pay you for it. I don't have a disc drive on my computer, but I do have one burnt CD with two of your songs that I LOVE to listen to in my car. Love love love your music. How else can i possibly further express this? I can't dance for the life of me, but when I'm alone, I sure do swing my stuff around to your beats like I know what I'm doing hahaha
And everything feels right in the world. If I can bring just one person such joy with this stuff that I'm making then I'm happy

i fell in love with electronic music and rhythm. after a few months i became completely obsessed, got my first job and brought myself some fake 1200's. mixing tunes was fun but it wasn't satisfying my love for beats, i needed to make my own.
now if i'm not making music, i'm mostly thinking, talking, listening or reading about music.
without music i'd be an alcoholic sex pest. it basically holds my life together.

I like making music because, despite the fact I consider myself to be artistically challenged, I still try and prove to myself in every song I make that there is some sort of creativity in me. It's odd, despite the fact the I feel like I'm no good at producing or making music, I have always had an undying desire to make music ever since the first time I picked up a guitar 9 years ago. I think what pushes me to produce is that I'm always trying to make a song that is a perfect expression of me - and little by little I think I get closer with each one.

I just love music in general, the more i can interact with it the better. Production widens my whole perspective of music, listening to the elements, experimenting and so on.

I have to. I have no choice. If I stop making music, I start losing my shit bigtime... and that's no joke. It's a combination of therapy, safety valve, and safe private internal place. And it's the process that I'm compelled by, not the results.

It's fun, I don't really look into it much more than that. It's just what I do. Over 20 years making tunes for me!

This - ironically it's also the one thing in life that can make me seriously pissed off too! For example: when you just can't get a sound you're after!! Hate having to settle for a mediocre sound when you have a bad assed one in your head!

I've been searching for this all my life, I just didn't know it. I thought maybe I'd found what I was looking for in street art. I still have a deep appreciation for street art and occasionally bang out a piece, but I found the thing in life I'd been missing in production. The entire process is so deeply satisfying, I can't really capture it with words. More than this, it drives me, as if before a flame. I lose sleep. I'm absolutely compelled. I couldn't stop if I wanted to. And if I was forced to stop, I'm not sure how I'd fill the void. I'd probably go on blotting out reality as well and as often as I could. Or begin a long and accomplished career in serial murder.

It's why others play games or have their hobbies, this is my hobby. I just wanted to be apart of something, especially because I love electronic music, and who doesn't want to be involved in something they love? Also, people hearing my music makes me feel pretty good. Even though I only share it with friends atm...I'm going to add some stuff to soundcloud soon. I can't go a day without spending at least 45 minutes in Reason.
Being creative in general is just pure fun, because it's challenging for me, and I get an end result that I usually enjoy therefore it motivates me to make more and keep progressing.

Definitely

Because it provokes such strong internal and emotional reactions on both ends of the scale - you either feel amazing or seriously depressed depending on the outcome - it just feels like it's meant to be (a massive cliché, I know, but oh so true ^_^).

Because just listening to something isn't enough, you got to create it too; life without creating music would be boring.

#1 Ever since the first time I heard subwoofers in a car, I was addicted to bass. I am absolutely crazy about it.
#2 Hip hop, house, and dubstep really speak to me. I came across these things, I relate with them, and I'm able to express myself thru them. I also love R&B, rock and roll, jazz, funk, soul, punk, metal, et cetera. Play guitar, piano and drums every day. Lately haven't found time to work on personal recording projects, but I go through phases where I just fiend for it and I'm up at all hours.
#3 outside of the stuff i write for enjoyment/expression, I produce music for a living ;]
edit
#4 impress my friends.
#5 Alienate myself from my friends
#6 make my girlfriend want to kill me

This!
I produce because it's all I have going for me in life. It's the only dream that I want to pursue. The feeling of music and sharing that feeling with as many people as possible gives me a fulfilling goal to try and achieve.
Been doing it for 6 months now. Through hard times, got me away from my heavy drug stage, but at the same time made me realize what is worth trying for in life. If all my friends are working in the trades being mechanics and shit and I become a producer that can just get by. I still feel 200% more accomplished than anyone.
I also produce because i'm a selfish asshole to think I'll be good one day...
But the drugs are coming back, and who knows if it'll be a good or a bad thing.
