I think too much modern dnb has far too much in common with bad techno, noisy metal and modern dnb for it's own good. It's stale and to me, seems to have just resorted to who can make the biggest sounds and raw engineering qualities instead of actual music. So little imagination or creativity actually employed.
Too much dance, not enough music for it to be dance music.
There are still producers and dj's rocking it for me like Fanu, Fracture and Neptune, Paradox and alike. But you have to hunt for their stuff and release wise it's few and far between.

I don't think dnb is in as bad a state as people make out though really. Lots of quality producers around.. just to name a few.. paradox, sileni, spirit, mutt, d-bridge, outlook, mav, fanu, fracture and neptune, breakage, 0=0, equinox, macc, dgoHn, senses - all fucking bad. Huge variety in that lot too!

Yeah fair play man
It is a shame though - almost all the artists I listed struggle to get releases and gigs.. there's maybe one or two nights in london that plays out shit like that on a regular basis.

I'm not sure how much to do with that attitude it really is. Most of the producers I listed are really wanting their sounds to get heard... hence the excitement on forums that Equinox, Breakage, 0=0 and Sileni now all have tunes signed to Planet Mu - finally good drum and bass might get a little exposure, and having tunes on a label like Planet Mu will open up the scene to a ton of people who would never have thought to check out a new drum and bass release

charlie fracture's a really good mate of mine and we chat - he says...he aint interested in new school mainstream dnb coz its pants. he makes what he likes and if others dont get into it then so be it - on occasion andy or hype will drop one of his tunes - but he really dont care - amongst his scene he's got legendary status - and to all the technicality's ive been to - its a mile ahead of any mainstream fabric dnb...u can't hold good music down, remember that!

Ah cool sorry, I misunderstood you. Thought you were saying the whole technicality sound was elitist! I've been to almost all of them in the last few years - one of the only nights, along with DMZ, that's worth missioning down to from Leeds. Really friendly and open minded crowd. And yeah, Fracture's a legend.. loads of quality tunes lined up, good DJ too.

I would say dubstep is closer to the roots of D&B - early house and jungle/hardcore.
I agree.
