for setting up a home studio you need all these

What the hell do you need a mixer for?

Hey thanks everyone for the input, much appreciated
so bought the akai lpk25 and the lpd8, now looking for monitors and soundcard

Lets talk more about Monitors.. so far you guys have mentioned these monitors..
Alesis M1 Active MkII, KRK RP8G2 Rokit and the Mackie Mr8's

Im using Behringer Truths, B2030A. Got a pair from a company in Auckland that i found with pricespy.co.nz (im in nz too). I paid about NZ$600 for them brand new, discounted from about $800 i think. I've seen them pop up on trademe too from time to time for around that price range. I've heard good feedback from everybody i've spoken to about them, including a few excellent producers who use them and a guy who deals in PA and studio equipment. They usually say that they are really good value for money, and an excellent entry level studio monitor. I've really liked them so far, but they are my first pair of monitors.

Sorry to hijack the thread but I'm looking to add a small studio mixer to my setup, my usb audio card is annoying to record into and I'd like more control.What are some good entry level 4-6 channel studio mixers. Do i need to get one with USB?
