Make her shit man. Last year I made my girlfriend a CD full of tunes, a small book thingy with drawings and such, a fold out island made of paper and whatnot and a plastician model of a fish (bitches love fish). Cost like £6 and was great fun to do as well.

Best thing you can do, and what I've been doing since I met my girlfriend, is any time she expresses even a passing interest in something (music/clothes/random tat etc etc), I make a note of it in a draft text message on my phone.

Keep adding to the message all through the year, then when birthday/Xmas comes round, you've got a ready list of stuff that can be considered for purchase. Works like a charm, means you don't have to remember anything and you get the extra bonus points that come with "OMG I can't believe you remembered!"
