erratech wrote:Really cant get into it tbh. Have you heard any of his tracks through a system? Ranges between mediocre and fucking underwhelming in my limited experience. Plus the Mila Kunis sample (why reuse such a shit [or any] sample) and arps in the tracks severely underwhelm me. Thats just my opinion tho, hes getting millions of youtube plays so obviously a lot of people love it. Good luck I say, Id 100% rather someone like him blows up than some thieving narcissist Prolific/Foulplay caricature.
im sick of skrillex already as well but when i saw him at webster hall it was the extreme opposite of underwhelming. and it wasnt close to being bad at all. like i said, im sick of him already but i have to give credit where it due.

I guess I'll have to go listen to one of his tracks just so I can hear what it is people are talking about. I can honestly say I've never heard a skrillex song yet.
Well, after listening to a couple I wasn't extremely impressed. I mean I have to give it to him for doing his thing. He's obviously got it going. However, it makes me sad to see something like that be the "it" thing and then something like this gets passed to the wayside.

I think most people start listening to Dubstep because they heard the crazy Brostep type of music, at least that's how I got into it.
When I first started listening, I came across the more chilled Dubstep, and I couldn't get into it, because it didn't sound WAY different than other music (In my opinion), I wanted that heavy bass with loads of wobbles and what not, because you don't hear that in any other genre!
I still can't listen to the chilled stuff, because I don't see how it's that great, it just seems to bore me..
I think the younger generation are into "Brostep" Because it's more crazy, and fun.. It's like Rock mixed with Techno or some shit.. What I'm trying to say is, it's just different..
If the first Dubstep song I heard, was the one you posted above, I would never be listening Dubstep now, because in my honest opinion, the song is shit.. But that's just my ears.
I came into Dubstep for the difference in it, that chilled out shit isn't me, and it seems like a lot of people aren't into it either ;l
I'm not trying to down you or what kind of music style you like, I just feel like it's not that different from other genres.
But it's all Dubstep, and it's all music, and some days I do like a little chilled music, but most of the time I'm into the "Midrange bass" Music, lol..
But who gives a damn, we're all enjoying music in the end ;D
This post is explained pretty shitty.. Lols

I don't get why Skrillex and Datsik are always compared, imo Datsik has always been leaps and bounds ahead of Skrillex.

Prob the reason SM & NS is so successful is that it has 3 hooks (the melody in the beginning, the memorable vocal sample before the drop, and the crazy bassline in the drop).
If you said to someone "have you heard Submerse - You are not alone" and they said "maybe whats it sound like again" what would you imitate? the vocal samples maybe? theres not much hookage
This is prob why Skrillex is so successful, because he came from a band and is therefore used to writing complete songs with hooks as opposed to 'tracks' or 'tunes' like you are not alone
EDIT: not that I'm saying that track is bad, i'm just literally saying why it couldn't be a hit

I just went and listened to Skrillex for the first time, had to see what all the hype is about. And puke, he sounds like he's combining dubstep with trance. Which is fine if your into trance, but I can't stand the stuff.
This is the end of dubstep. Guess it's all part of a cycle, like hardcore being replaced by happy hardcore, or the whole acid and breakcore scene getting dominated by shitty McTrance, and now it's making it's way into dubstep. It will become the preferred style of the majority and soon the rough edges of brostep will be all but forgotten cept by the few who try to keep it's memory alive.
It was a fun ride while it lasted.

@OP agree completely. His composition + production skills are outstanding (Learning how to play scary monsters & nice sprites on the piano, lovely!). Been steadily addicted to his tunes (current fave is sexy lady, can't get over the vocals). The guy knows how to make you move That's why he's successful, it has nothing to do with his band, but i'm sure that experience helped him. I only wish I could produce a similar style, have attempted many times.

I've given Skrillex more than a fair listen, and I've always been unimpressed. His resampling skills are fine, but his music is just annoying.

I'm relatively new to the dubstep scene (about 7 months) and I have found that his tunes are easy to listen to but all have quite a similar sound. I do like most of what he mixes, but yeah, a little bit samey.

Just about got it...
Example in my sig at the drop.
