I've just realised why i don't like it - it confuses me and it makes me feel old.

Oh, and some of it is proper shit too. Saw Exile live with Mouse on Mars recently. Good grief. "I know, lets chop up some amens and shout over the top. No-ones done that before". I left, and went home feeling particularly old.

Heh... that's sort of true, but sort of not. Firstly, he really is doing something totally new with his live show. He spent years programming all the software so he could chop those amens live.. creating drum and bass/breakcore/gabba/techno or whatever like that totally 100% live is pretty impressive, no? And secondly, his album is nothing like his live show whatsoever. He quit making dancefloor oriented drum and bass when he figured out he could do all that stuff live, so his album is far more experimental and 'electronica'-y.

you seemed to like bilious paths a couple of years ago, i distinctly remember on a number of occassions havin to mix outta that crazy noise!

Tim Exile is a fuckin nutjob and a proper talented bloke.

'Big Bad Purple Badboy' off of his album was the stand out dnb track of last year for me.

the live concept sounds kinda interestin, and racket that video is technically real impressive.. so hats off to the guy for spendin years programin..
but the sound aint exactly new, just think what he couldve come up with in those years if he'd tried to make some new sound.. damn now that wouldve been good - i liked crazy amens years ago but i cant say it does much for now!

Ha ha... I think you've already been pulled up on that one Joseph, but I'd just like to agree with the above comments..

Tim is a proper nutcase and as a fellow Brightonian I can confirm he is a top bloke too - (especially good at the waltz whilst wielding a crutch as well....)

I've also seen his live set quite a few times now and I can safely say that he is the most imaginative musicians/live acts I've seen - yeah some of it is rehearsed (like all live acts and bands) but he is one of the only electronic acts I've seen that can pretty much fully improvise when required. Making beats off the cuff using his voice as the only sound source, then using his voice to make synth noises is not just shouting over amens....

And for the record last time I saw him he didn't shout or play any amens, at least until we begged him to!

So Joseph-J, if you can, try and see him in a smaller venue at a more relaxed night - then you'll get a proper idea of the range he's capable of - including quite a bit of impro comedy

Starts about half way through and plays between album tracks and some of his impro street ambient work...

planet mu is definitely one of the most consistent labels in quite a while, and i especially like that they have never locked themselves in any genre... thats what is missing today - open mind and no boundaries (at least in terms of electronic music), while retaining musical quality and consistency that connects all this releases to one label... impressive!

Not a fan of the output apart from Remarc and dubstep bits. Pier wankstep some of it.

some of its well deep
and other bits sound like a bunch of chimps were let loose in a studio

Im happy to admit that im obsessed with Rephlex/Planet-mu/Warp, been listening to them for years. Got into dubstep cos of the Rephlex 'Grime' releases, then heard Vex'd on Mu. I rekon Mu has taken the reigns from Rephlex as the leading label. Everything they put out is either mindblowing or 'interesting', leading electonic music.

It interesting how 'dubstep' is popular with 'electronica' fans, as well as people from a garage or dnb backgrounds. Good music apeals to everyone.

i've been my planet mu records from an old fashioned book shop for the last year or so. its really quite odd.

yes I! remarc and alot of other jungle/raggacore is on rephlex.very stimulating. jungle is a powerful force.

Planet Mu is a massive Label. Mike is on the ball when it comes to signing 'very big' tunes

the problem with planet mu is that they seek in very underground music for things which sells - and then they release 'em
simple as that

I love everything Planet Mu.... the complete roster sits pretty on a seperate shelf in my house
