it sounds like manually chopping up the vocal chorus at the end of the song and re arranging it to make a new melody.

Also, I know this has autotuning etc in effect but the dude is still the master of audio cutting/re-ordering.

Anyways, I'm curious what some of you hear in the vocal line in Scary monsters. So far all I hear is some pitch shifting and reverb, but it seems like no matter what i try it sounds quite lame. Maybe a vocoder or something?
For what it's worth i was thinking maybe we could share some tips. So far all i can say is I've found it easiest to load up audacity instead of chopping in Logic, the Audacity pitch shifter seems easier to use to me. That's about as far as I've gotten.
Native Instruments Guitar Rig FX has some cool shit.. I like the beat slicer a lot

he records his own vocals then chops them up individually in ableton. ableton is perfect for doing this cuz you can zoom in super close and take a formant, ctrl+e the snippet you want, double click then change the pitch of the note. then once you get the riff done consolidate (ctrl+J) and add effects/EQ/compression. do this a million times till you get good at it then you'll sound just be second best to skrillex

whats funny about this tune is the song they use for example is actually good
Omfg I actually LOL'ed so hard! it's sad because with enough work on that burp, and route that through a synth, it would sound exactly like Skrillex, and you could make some "filthy growls" like that!
and that Fagottron has some wicked sample chopping techniques, goes to show how much you can make from the simplest sounds! I wonder what made him pick that name

Glitch works pretty well, but, if you have the time, slice your vocals up manually. And create a beat :/
You could always use a decent gate. But, DBlue Glitch have a gate.
Glitch will piss the hell out of you when your first get it.
Don't over do it. Or else you will have more distortion then vocals

To me it sounds like he's sampled the last chorus vocals, put distortion on and possibly a bit of chorus, then ran the track through Melodyne or something similar with a low retune speed to get that quick switch noise between the notes.
He may have messed with the formant or throat length settings to get that strange quality of the vocals (can't even describe it but I'm sure you know what I mean), although he may have just tuned the notes to a few semitones higher or lower to get that.
sweet choon
this is QUALITY compared to any of skrillex stuff imo

i just got turn tables and traktor and i think i figured out what he is doing.
in traktor you can make 4 bar loops and slide between them on beat. so hes just cutting up X amount of bars and pasting them in random locations in like 8th notes .

he uses melodyne and abletons transpose wheel for all his vocals as stated on his soundcloud.

dunnow what daw ur on.. what i usually do is use logic's arrange window..
clone my audio track... and chop one, mute it... then drag chops on the unmuted one.. and see how it goes... allows u to keep focus on ur things, and work against silence...
then i create other cloned tracks, with effects on them like pitch shifters, etc.. and drop whatever chop form the above track on them, to c how they flip... and i also use the stretching algorythms to get it a little more interesting...
at the very last stage ill add something like glitch (im on a mac so i use some analog plugins)... and play with the automation lane to automate their effect..
by that time it often sounds like shit, or very good. never in between...
or i fiddle forever in kontakt and use the timemachines in it to harmonize and shit...
works with percs as well.. but i find it overdone..

theres a youtube vid or something showing how the scary monsters vox are the somewhat intelligble vocals from the end of the song reversed to get those unique volume envelopes. then i would expect multiplied, tube distortion, various sweeteners and stuff, resampled and chopped up then dropped into a sampler. that's what I would try, anyway
