You might be right, but I would suggest that by making the following comparison with Phil Collins it's definitely what the author is hinting at...therapist wrote:Is "a kind of mournful, blue-eyed soul" the new pop then? I wondered how long it would be until people basically started saying stuff along the lines of, "James Blake has sold out, why doesn't he make strange uncommercial music anymore blah blah blah??"
