DUBSTEP (once labeled "dark garage") is not only aurally austere, it promotes a grim, gothic aesthetic and, like early electronic music, emphasizes anonymity.
gothic aesthetic?
i dont think so.

not the worst write up, but far from good.

not bad at all. I feel you on the goth descrip cause that has a certain image. to me it's more of an "international bashment"
bigs to Ms. Ajiri on the published photo... is it her 1st?

One of my fav. quotes:

"Writing about music is like dancing about architecture - it's a really stupid thing to want to do." --Elvis Costello

That said, the purpose of the article is more about raising the awareness of dubstep in LA than writing an accurate description of the music that we can all agree on (which will never happen). Not a bad article IMO...

good stuff

i keep on showing my mates articles about dubstep in an attempt to persuade
them its here to stay but they keep dismissing it.
perhaps showing them this international coverage will change their minds.

Good Job Justin...only been online to check it...my local newstand sold out...ravaged by a multitude of dubstep heathens no doubt! I'ma try and track down a copy somewhere...shame there was no mention of Breakage though joining the Professionals and making beats...thats pretty f@3king huge, thought Mr. Staypuft and more of the SoCal producers needed to get more props too but overall a good overview of whats going on. Good to see the Times supporting a fledgling scene anyhow. Don't forget the Random Trio instore at Temple of Boom tonight at 7:30!
peaz.

Weirdly enough, I can draw a lot of similarities in the audio aesthetics and that's pretty much why I got into it. There's no direct comparison, per se but I know for a fact that a shitload of other Gothic/Industrial types would get into Dubstep if they heard it. I think they'd eat the dark shit up. Some of the latest Industrial and Techno is fucking insane stuff. The hardest of the hard.

Going back to the early Electronic music - Cab Voltaire, Throbbing Gristle, Can, Neu. I can hear comparisons in vibe and sound, definitely. Absolutely. Without question.

Gothic arches in the house.

OFF TOPIC POST !!!!!

Your avatar is (Marsyas) pure genius.
Excellent use of Miss Guerrido on the forum !

For the uninitiated -- we're talking about Jackie Guerrido, the weatherperson on Despierta America -- a morning TV show on the Univision network.

Google her at any time....you'll see the magic.
