Half step is fucking amazing. Aside from Said the spider alot of Darqwan/breakstep style tunes haven't done it for me. I don't mind a mix as some of the vex'd stuff is a faster tempo and bordering on the darqwan sound. I feel with half step though, that the bass has more room to breath and the producer has more room for creativity as he's not overly concerning himself with beat structure. Thats one of the main faults I took with Dn'B. There was too much of a formulaic pattern and a focus on rinsed break patterns b/c its what the listeners were comfortable with.
PLUS there's a general feeling from "half step". The bass lines tend to pervade all the space in the tune while at the same time reaching down into your stomach and almost inducing vomit. I love it!

Halfstep is the best music to lift weights to.

imho it's much harder to make innovative sounding breakbeat than to make innovative half-step
everything was said in case of breaks
but halfstep is still kind of a musical terra incognita
freedom of work and space u have gives u much more for your experiments than 140bpm rolling breakbeat

HALF STEP DEFO AINT DULL. YOU CAN GET SLIGHT ALTERATIONS OF A HALF STEP BEAT (TOASTY BOY-THE KNOWLEDGE/SKREAM LIGHTENING DUB AGAINST THE LIKES OF LOEFAH-HORROR SHOW/COKI-OFFICER)
SAME AS YOU WOULD GET SOME MORE STRIPPED DOWN BREAKS (VEX'D-GUNMAN) AND MORE FULL OUT AMEN (DARQWAN-BIGGER TIMES)

pretty much all other styles of electronic music are uptempo, not half-step. i dont see why anyone insists that dubstep be uptempo like everything else.

Whether its your preference or not, half-step is healthy for the scene for different reasons - it breaks up a dance, so you havent' got the same tempo all night.
Also it gets the scene away from going down the Harder, Faster route that dnb went down, meaning that hopefully dubstep will have more longevity*. I guess it means people have to be more inventive when constructing a track, cause anyone can bash together a 4/4 riddim.

nail on the head Mr. Joesph-J ... I think Loefah made the point in his interview with blackdown that thats precislly the reason it works ... cos an uptempo tune mixed into a half-steppa is HEAVY innit ... the same as how a 4x4 beat mixed into a 2-step or half-step riddim will smash up the place as well.
