EDIT: of course... not saying you oughta rely on it
Side-chain compression. Massive presets, kick drum rolls, 200hz snare drum, risers... bang Also you need a sample from a movie/rap/dancehall...
i said make a banger, not sound like rusko
Rusko is the key to money and bitches pay attention.

one day you will learn that successful producer does not mean your a great skilled producer
its all about networking and marketing even in underground music
i can point to a few people who's skills shit on him from a great hight and are not the biggest names

Most people are just raging because he literally had dubstep by the balls and they don't like the sound he pushes.
I can't hate on him for being big, but I can hate on him because I don't like his tunes, bottom line is, yes, his music has mass appeal, you're not talking to the mass though, you're talking to bedroom producers and elitists.

this is the thing tho, i never understood, mass appeal? yeah sure the music hes producing now isnt really the same and more directed to a wider crowd, OMG album etc, but everything before that is proper good dubstep,i cant see how a "dubstephead" can not like his earlier productions. the old good ones are still there. he just took his production into another direction, it was his decision, his music, his calls, cant see why people are getting "upset" about it.
ifu dont like it fair enough, if someone simply does not enjoy his tunes course i respect that, but dont hate on him
his earlier tunes does not have mass appeal and
elitists need to get their heads outa their arses

unfortunately, the world doesn't work that way.

Just curious how everyone would conduct themselves if they became as successful as rusko as to avoid all this internet hate???
Except the obvious ' dont work with britney' lol

Some people need to chill out. I don't hate anyone. I opened up for him once. He seemed pretty safe to me. I even dig a couple of his tunes. I am probably making fun of the mentality of half the n00bs that come up in here more than anything. Anyway how would you quantify "being better than Rusko". It's all subjective and the last time I checked everyone was entitled to their opinion regardless of personal skill / popularity / sales / whatever you are basing it on. This site is based in America I believe

im good with groove, now i just have to figure out how to add energy.
fragments wrote:Percussion. Get it off the grid. Make subtle changes. Carefully placed and mixed ghost snares can help. All the latter can add energy to a track. As for "upbeat", a good melody is always a go-to for me. As for violent, dunno...guess some of those mad glitchy mid-range tear-out bass jobs? Keep it in a cage and poke it with a stick until it lives for blood?
check
in all serious, ive been doing lots with my drum lately and i think my newest thing is pretty good (percussion wise). its got a groove and its complimented by the synths/basses
Dreadfunk wrote:
I guess the thing to do is load up tracks that you consider bangers into your DAW and analyze the crap out of them. Zoom in to the waveform and see what is hitting where at what time as you listen.
thats actually what ive been doing. its odd, some tunes dont sound like bangers unless theyre on a big system. for example. Reploid by Excision & Downlink. its not a bad tune, however, it doesnt really sound like a huge club tune. when i heard it a few weeks ago, the sub was intense enough to make underage men take their shirts off and start hugging. you know what i mean??
serox wrote:filling in the gabs will help give it pace. But to make it popular with DJs in clubs you will need a hook and it needs to be danceable.
after i read this, word association popped into my head. i know its dubstep but i neglected the 'dance' part. when i hear the word dance, i think bounce. and all the youtube videos talking about triplets all of a sudden made sense. you cant jive to a straight beat... the tune in my sig is where i applied this
Nacklewicket wrote:complex (lots of different automation goion on), "quick" basslines. like come up with a really good & original sounding bassline loop. then rinse it as fuck!! drums could be really simple, but still must have energy.. make the drums fit the bassline.
cant stand some "bro" tunes that have neither a good sounding bassline or no repetition, just makes a fucking mess.
i know what youre sayin. i listen to everything from the deepness to the bro anthems. from being in hardcore bands, writing broanthems felt more natural to me.
Kes-Es wrote:You're working with halftime drums, so if you want your track to have quickness, energy, and whatnot, whip up a powerful patch and make your bassline doubletime, use tiny breaks of silence to emphasize your groove and make it seem heavier.
Solid melodic elements that keep up throughout the track are how you build a hook, write a catchy riff, and milk it, then change the patch/sound, make minor alterations but don't throw it off too much or you'll lose the attention of the typical listener, make sure all your sounds sound like they're the same sound just different versions, not like you built two different synth patches and just put them together in one riff, but like the sound is mutating, and when they are obviously different, make sure they mesh sonically.
Also, Ham VST your whole track.
i attempted!

Rusko isn't my cup of tea most of the time, but you can't knock his ability to write good music. Good being: people like it.
Bangers to me are songs that go off on the dance floor, regardless of the style, full stop. It's that track that you drop in your set and all the head nodders start dancing, and the girls start wiggling their butts.
If you don't like dance floor bangers, well have fun staying in your bedroom and producing for yourself and other nerds, cause that's what you are doing.
