yeAH just make another carrier of the exact same setting and it will be the same as modulating itself
thanks! can anyone confirm this?

Don't mean to hijack your thread with my own questions, but is there any way to automate an operators offset with an LFO or envelope? Of course, I could draw some automation paths in Ableton's but that doesn't work well at all.

I Dont use FM8, I use Sytrus which is a similar synth and works in the same way. If you have the signature bundle version of FL Studio, you should already have sytrus.

FM8 is the most fun I've ever had with a synth. I prefer drawing envelopes to using LFOs for my sounds as I feel like I have more control over what is going on with the modulation. It is capable of some really unique and awesome sounding stuff.

yea i know it's definitely intimidating. but once i have a basic idea of what does what then that's when i let my imagination go wild and experiment. tbh i'm really excited to see what i can make out of fm8 after hearing some of your guys' examples and knowing what can be made just in the synth alone.

yeah its a must if you like the skrillex-esque vocal growls. But some of the presets amaze me with the big soundscapes, the soundscape presets alone with no fx on them could be thrown straight into a movie like "the book of eli" and work perfectly....
nothing can top the main song of "the book of eli though"

Lolrando. Btw the answer is false. Duplicating the signal to modulate one with the other will not equal a single signal modulating itself...I will prove my point later.

you know what they say, agreeing with yourself is one thing.
Talking back to yourself is worrying.
Worry even more if your internal voice argues with your other internal voices.

It's probably why his name is RandoRando, there are actually 2 of him otherwise it would just be Rando
Back on topic, asides from the videos posted, can anyone direct me to some beginner vids / tuts on making some basic reeses and basses on FM8? Once i've got my head around that I should be able to find my own way. Really wanna get into FM8 but everytime I open it my brain hurts. I've used Ableton's operator so have a basic idea of how FM works, but its really just finding the controls etc and navigating my way around its UI that im struggling with I think

This will not be the same as self modulating! If one oscillator is modulated by itself, it changes it's waveform, so the waveform modulating the osciallator itself is changed.
