post-dubstep is a term pitchfork made up when they decided they were officially too cool to like dubstep

imo it's what people call current dubstep that adheres to the original ideals of having your own unique style and sound and staying away from other peoples formulas... so modern dubstep with an old time "anything goes" attitude and some seriously talented producers
they'll be calling it something else in a couple months anyways

right, but even post-modernism is full of cultural elitism. sure, writers and journos have used post-______ to be able to signify that which is derivative or takes influence from something. the point is that the majority of journalists writing about dubstep and electronica use it in the context of....we're _________(insert magazine name) and we think that producer ABC is post-________ because we want to declare the ________ genre over, and introduce __________ as its cousin (and we want to say we said it first before the rest of magazines).
its the same way that cultural elitism stinks up the art world. 90% of the time its publicists and journo's having a go. look at banksy ffs! he's a total PR production.

James Blake/Kimbie/Jamie XX
all that noise. I just call it dubstep, I think giving it another label just means you divide the community more and only attract certain people to nights and sets. if it was just "Great dubstep on tonight! yeah come check it out!" and it was a load of Blake/Ramadanman/Mount Kimbie and whatever people would still vibe out i reckon

You'd want to hear at least SOME half-time business at a dubstep night though surely.

Just as much as I want to hear SOME 2stepy, housey, garagey dubstep... The strength of the sound is it's variety! Half time dubstep is just a small piece of the pie to me, altho I know it's the piece that's been adopted as "the sound" by some
idc what you call it, just give me a fun beat and some bass please

I don't think there's anything wrong with describing music as future garage or post-dubstep. It's just the therms that are used, ignore any connotation you want to ascribe to it. Post-rock is still very much a 'genre' even if it's a bullshit name, but nobody assumes rock is dead. Same with post-hardcore in relation to hardcore punk rock. There is definitely a different sound. You can try to describe it, but you'll fall short. But it's not enough to just say, "It's dubstep...ish..."
I don't think anyone would call Burial post-dubstep though unless he went in a very different direction.
But yeah, I mean, would you really say James Blake or Mount Kimbie or Jamie XX are dubstep when a lot of their music doesn't have the components that define dubstep? It may be steeped in and strongly influenced by the music, but it's still a strange and definite permutation and it deserves to be described as what it is. Although I think everyone would be happy just calling it bass music, most people won't figure the music for what it is if you just called it that.

the stuff that people call post-dubstep is called post-dubstep because it adheres to the original ideas and desire to innovate found in the genre? sounds retarded if you ask me.
no no no the actual post-dubstep is all that tearout bro stuff. it's evolved out of dubstep, the roots are there but it's something else. different aim, different direction and philosophy. and different audience of course.
