Never even crossed my mind to use snares in this way. Having said that I am generally a bit shit when being creative with a wav. I rely on synths a bit too much

No offense mate but the tutorial is pretty lame. Asside from the camera making me feel ill, or the windows errors popping up every few seconds with you swearing at the computer, the actual finished sound isn't anything special. Nice one for trying tho.
