I didn't live in Bolton (thank fuck) just spent a lot of school holiday time up there till I was about 16
I couldn't think of anyway else to describe it. I know there's plenty places like that, not so many round here.

Bolton. In the north.
If it's South of the Tyne then it aint north.
i suppose thats pretty much all your city has going for it so you can have that, there we go, you are the North. now we can get back on with our lives living somewhere not shit

Why do you think I moved down south? The North East if the armpit of England.
(Moved back up north due to my dad's poor health)

The images you posted would suggest this isn't always the case

Yeah it's very pretty in places but it's about ten years behind the rest of the country, a lot of people seem inherently ignorant and intolerant of anyone from outside the region, or worse, not white and British. It really gets depressing, there's no jobs to speak of unless you want to work in the third sector or public sector, blah blah.
Beatiful part of the world to visit and I do love where I am from, I just prefer down south. Best years of my life were spent in Hampshire living on the South Coast. There is a huge difference between the south and the north. People from the north are meant to be friendlier - I haven't seen any evidence of that. I was welcomed down south and was a bit of a novelty amongst my southern mates.

i was about to say, myth that northerners are friendly is a myth
i have a lot of southern friends, a lot of em are a bit stand offish but only in exactly the same way the same type of kid is up here, makes very little difference

Yeah I just think it's one of those things were people try and distinguish based on region in the same way they'll distinguish by any number of factors. There are people who are cool and people who are pricks irrespective of region or specific background but people seem happy with generalisations.
I'm kinda suprised at the intolerance / ignorance though but then I'm from Liverpool which as a port has had a history of cultural divergence and seems / largely comfortable with it.

Curry sauce is one of those things were the names too ambiguous for me to want to eat it. Like anything with the word "meat" in it, or sea food sticks.

Yeah but you can see what's in a fruit salad. It's not like "meat pie" where you could be eating anything from fillet steak to a sheeps anus or something.

Interseting fact for you english people.
Over here, in northern ireland, we call it a gravy chip. But if you ask for a gravy chip over in england they will usually look at you and make a joke about you only wanting to buy a single chip.
