my economy teacher is always talking about that :p
America is a strange country. People should also do some effort to try to comprehend the system a bit better.
Btw these studentloans? What's the rent rate on them?

Going to SAE Los Angeles in the fall!
Took a little private tour of the place and it looks awesome. Its about $20,000 USD for the course I'm taking but with grants/loans/etc Im hoping I'll be ok.
You get unlimited studio time to book 24-hrs a day which is awesome. They let you bring in anyone you want to record/hang out/collab.
The place looks awesome, I walked into the lobby and in a room with glass walls and doors were about 10 Mac computers with NI Maschines next to them. This is the "lounge" haha.

Exactly!
Definitely will!
I'm relatively new to this whole thing and I'm not sure how many aspiring dubstep producers actually attend this place, so it'd be awesome to have another creative mind machine in the studio.
PM me (Or Ill PM you) around that time and we can pump out some serious shit!

Facilities is definitely not the problem with SAE

Although the Amsterdam location didn't have the Maschines (yet).
Any idea on how much students they have at LA?

When I visited a couple weeks ago the Admissions rep told me that they have about 60 students enrolled in the main audio engineering course. This course starts every 3 months and is 9 months long.
I got to sit in on one of the classes, and there were 20 people tops in the class. It seems very informative and interactive; very comfortable environment it seems.
I think this is its advantage over other audio engineering schools in the area like LARS because of in-studio time. The rep guided me through the website where you book your studio hours and it seemed relatively empty. As long as you do it 48 hours in advance, you can book yourself whenever in whichever studio you want to work in.
Some guy had about 10 hours straight on one day while other days where almost empty. The small class sizes seem to result in more personal studio time to work on class projects or anything else you're working on for yourself.

SAE looks awesome but, it's just the price that bothers me. I mean, is a bachelor in recording arts really worth 15K (or even more)? I can study another course in Brussels, pretty much the same thing but not with all the gearporn, but still decent equipment. It costs more than half of what SAE is charging.
@knell: what about actual studying for exams? Is it a lot that you have to learn, or is it a bit more practically orientated?

Yeah I guess I'm in it for the experience. I'm most excited to meet people and maybe find an internship through one of my professors or something. You also get 24hr professional studio time too which is nice.
Also the course I'm taking includes a Macbook Pro, Logic 9, Ableton Live 8, Pro Tools, NI's Komplete, and other random stuff like production headphones.
I figure it'll cost me about the same as a new car, which isn't bad considering most of my peers are going off to 4-year universities where they'll pay 20k+ a semester.
Different strokes for different folks though I guess, it all depends on who you are

hello all.
i would highly recommend alchemea (not sure if they have any outside the UK). i've met a lot of both sae students and alchemea students through work - both groups of people are really well trained but the guys from alchemea seriously know their shit. Plus a macbook, protools and logic certifications and some other useful shit is included in the price of your course - i would do a course there if i could afford it

Alchemea is awesome but to be honest i've met people from all schools who are awesome and many that are not... depends on the person, not the school imo
SAE gives you way better gear starting out, too

Oh what do they give u? I think "give" is the wrong word though as you are paying them thousands of pounds/dollars/euros. I heard stories that sae don't let you in a studio for two to three months? For a short course? I have no idea where I got this figure from tho. I agree with your point though

yeah give was really the wrong word
just everything that alch bundles + a faster computer, pro tools LE, logic 9, all the NI stuff, quality headphones, etc.
oh and SAE has requirements to use the studio, but unlimited sign-up studio time and lab stuff... i met a guy who had booked thousands of hours of recording time, it's like he slept in the damn studio
