Yes, fantastic musicianship. Definitely an album that evokes this sense of journey from top to bottom. That goes for all their stuff though.

Sparta is the one half of ATDI, of which Mars Volta is the second half, but I'm guessing you knew this, the early Sparta songs are much like the later ATDI songs, more recently they have tried to crack the mainstream and imo have lost that early vibe which I was into but definitely check them out they make great music!

but actually I think that dubstep has something appealing for people that come frome very different backgrounds, because i think there is a lot of stuff that works as "listening" music and not only as pure dancefloor "tools", which might be the case in other edm genres.

I hate seeing Nevermind get listed as the best album all the time. I thought it was, for the most part, average at best. There were a few good songs, but overall I find Nirvana to be rather annoying. I liked their unplugged album simply because each song actually sounded good. A lot of their stuff, to me, sounds like nails on a chalkboard.

Just to continue being "that guy", can we finally just admit that The Doors suck and Jim Morrison was just a giant, pretentious, attention seeking douchebag?

As for my idea of a perfect album I'm going to mirror a previous post for Radiohead's Kid A.

Outkast - Aquemini
Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon
Radiohead - OK Computer
Alice In Chains - Dirt
Alice In Chains - MTV Unplugged (greatest unplugged performance imo)
Soundgarden - Superunknown

If I really wanted to I could probably put all of Radiohead's albums in this list and call it a day. Growing up these albums were played countless times in my room. I had to buy Dirt like 6 different times because it was so badly scratched from me putting into the cd player and taking it out so many times. When I could finally afford a cd player with a disc changer, at least 2 of these albums were in it at any given time.

I don't have any actual electronic music in the list simply because when I was growing up electronic music wasn't readily available. I was eventually turned onto EDM when I was about 16 and I had steady access to the internet. Before that, if it wasn't on the store shelves, I didn't hear it. There's also the problem with me not really owning any real electronic albums. I own individual tracks from artists, but not many full albums.
