Agreed. This might change when the ban takes effect though, as people will hopefully realize that they no longer have a smokescreen (pun intended) to hide their poor personal hygiene and subsequent BO.

fuck this, i can't imagine the bastards turning up at dmz at 4am in luminous jackets telling everyone to put their spliffs out. if it does happen however, i will be absolutely gutted and it will be a tragedy if my kids grow up not knowing of the joys of standing infront of a speaker smoking some ganja.

Everyone is pretty much happy with the way things worked out over here. The smokers are usually catered for with covered outdoor heated seating areas, then they can come back inside to mingle with the rest of the people. I'd rather not have to split my group of friends into two pubs or clubs every time we wanted to go out somewhere - yet at the same time I dont want to have to breathe in smoke from other people.

Good point about the smoke vs. alcohol. Nobody is forcing a pint down my throat if I'm in a pub (well...), same goes for E's, coke, trips, whatever. But smoke I have to breathe in whether I like it or not.

It really gets my neck up when people refer to "anti smoking fascists" or "sizan". There's a world of difference between wanting to go out somewhere and not breathe in chemicals from cigarettes from other people, and calling for racial purity through the extermination of minorities or whatever. So please, ease off the "sizan" shit. It doesnt help the debate at all.

I don't smoke cigarettes when I'm out, the smell makes me reach, you might catch me smoking a zoot now and again but having something banned, in my opinion is a little OTT. The haze at dubstep events just heightens the mind blowing atmosphere. Where is the freedom of choice?

Can the venue owner not decide? Would the venue benefit from a non smoking policy or are the majority of the punters, smokers?

I'll welcome the day when I can come home and not reek but I think the government have gone a little too far with it, hence my n[size=0]h[/size]azi comment.

went to the triptych festival in scotland and it was seriously WEIRD going to a dubstep night where no-one was smoking... was a good look for me though cos i just given up (out to everyone that has given up smoking.. it's aLOT!)

It is a human right to choose ones own health. As far as im concerned a pub/club is a smoke filled place, and even as a non smoker i personally choose to go to them. People should feel free to not come, not change it to their ideal.

nah i reckon thats different again man, because if you choose to go to a club it would usually be for the music, not for the smoke. the smoke is an uneccessary part of the experience really...i know there were no such thing as a non-smaking bar here, so if you want to go to town u had to deal with it. it's just normal here now and no one thinks twice about it really.

if you think about it, if you choose not to come, you dont get to see the all the music, hang out with your mates etc. but with this change, if you are a smoker you can still come and do all those things, you just have to go outside every now and then. the way it has developed here is that your group of mates or whatever will all go out at the same time, smokers or not you can still continue your conversation...5 mins later you are back inside.

in saying all this i didnt really care too much myself, just arguing a point

I can't see it being enforced there. Enough dodgy shit goes on down there that its almost (touch wood and all that) immune from the law. Maybe its just wishful thinking. I can't bear to think of a Subdub without being able to have a spliff inside...

No Smoking in clubs since 2004 in NZ. Everybody accepted the law very quickly!..People still smoke weed, cos thats's illegal anyway!
But as a promoter the impact is huge...if you running a small club night, say 100 peeps, then every 45 mins or so, at least 50 percent of your crowd will be outside, really fucks with the vibe.
Ive been bringing over international dj's too and a disturbing trend is for 50% of the people (includinf non smokers) to stay outside all night smoking and chatting until the international dj comes on!

I don't drive a car and I am glad that there are laws against people letting off toxic fumes where I work, whether they be exhaust fumes, smoke or asbestos.

I am also glad that it isn't up to my boss, or people who visit my office but don't work here.

I think everyone has a right to work in an environment that doesn't destroy their health.

I like a toke, btw.

there's no actual proof that second hand smoke causes health problems, though. this law is the equivalent of a judge saying 'everyone knows he dunnit, send him down'.

business owners should be advised to ban smoking on health grounds, and maybe given some sort of financial incentive to do so. i'm sure ravers & pubgoers will adapt but for a long time the atmosphere is going to be shit, and it's going to stink of shit as well.

A little off topic but quite interesting none the less, my brother is a Rep for imperial tobacco, and he's allowed to smoke in his car when by himself, yet when he has another person in the car, it's deemed a 'workplace' and therefore he's not allowed to smoke in the car and be fined if caught, crazy laws!

Its gonna be harsh Im into reggae and i cant imagine a dance not being bonged out and stinking of weed, The only way i think u cud legally be allowed to smoke in the club is if it became like a smokers club where u had to sign up and agree to the terms. use this on certain nites.

I know the next reggae dance i go to ill be sparking up a fatty str8 away wether the ban is in or not lol

So im allowed to smoke in my car but wat if i blow the smoke out of the window while in a carpark will i get fined lmao.

It an out right ban. There are no loop holes. Noestablishent will be exempt.
