some sounds were pretty spot on and he just put up some tutorial vids on how he went about on making the basslines or hilines if you will.

quite weird to be dropping "facts" about completely subjective experiences, but ok

Soundcloud

Also worthy of noting - Mr Bill has a 10 hour tutorial series on making that^ tune from start to finish, basically it wrote while doing the tutorial using only native ableton stuff.... not quite dubstep but its pretty fukn nuts :)

not quite 'spot on' but it's just a quick re-creation from scratch... skrillex probably has his templates and effect chains he's been tweaking for a long time (guessing from the similarity between many of his tracks). Still would like to see how mr bill is making these sounds! going to subscribe to him for sure

It's not exact, but he's got the basic characteristics of the sounds down quite well. I'm sure if he spent some more time on them he could get them much closer, but what's the point really? I mean the most useful part of recreating someone's sound is to understand the process that went into making them, and then using that understanding in your own creations. Did recreating any of this make him special in some way? No, but on a production level I'm sure he learned some new things in the process.

Damn stop pussyfooting around this, people are so scared to just say it...

The majority of them already had his posters in their bedrooms prior to him cashing in on dubstep.
So bloody true. There's so many things about this guys music that are stuck at the 'amateur' level, I don't know how he got anywhere. He doesn't seem to even know about funky, human feeling beats (syncopation and what not), leaving his music un-danceable. And I don't go to parties to mosh.

Most FFTL fans I know absolutely hate skrillex, and most skrillex fans I know have never heard of FFTL. Stupid assumption.

Most of his dubstep is un-danceable, but his electro = :U:

exactly - his songs are even worst than most of the one-week hits today...i was really impressed when i first heard him-cuz of his bass
but that was for a week or smthn...teh songs are getting you bored really fast - nothing interestin - the beat, nor the structure - absolutely nothing - even the bass that grab me in the first place is super easy in comparison with artists like noisia, teebee etc,,, There is not much resampling in them and sounds pure synthy and plastiqueish...You could achieve them with overall 10 clicks on the synth and some saturation and new york limiting...Nothing groundbreaking as somebody said to me before :D

To prove your point, recreate the bassline from f.ex. the sexy lady remix then? 8)

Right, that's quite enough of that, thank you very much.

This thread has been added to Skrillex resource thread which is stickied at the top of the group. Am locking now.

Flatfaced - if you'd like to try and replicate the Skrillex sound using some synth patch programming, and give a brief tutorial/step by step as to how you've done it, I'd be interested to read it. PM me if you're up for it.
