James Blake is amazing etc, but I think the fact that he associated himself with the dubstep scene is a major reason for his success. He easily could have put the same music out as indie and went that route, and wouldn't have had nearly the exposure. He basically skipped the queue of great indie/electronic acts trying to get out there by releasing on Hessle and R&S instead.

Man was posting bare dubs on here in 07... This sound is where he came from, and I'm proud of that. He's a talented individual

Not seeing the big problem with hipsters to be honest. In Denmark the hipsters rate good dubstep like James Blake, Mount Kimbie, Burial etc. etc. Anything "alternative". The only thing i might be able to criticize is that they might not like it tomorrow because of the culture.

"Hipster" in 2011 means nothing more than trendy, cool young people. It's well beyond entered mainstream. People who whine about cool, young people are a pretty sad and bitter bunch.

this describes hipsters perfectly. for me anyway

mate are you serious? although his album might not be dubstep in it's purest form his earlier productions certainly are. can't believe you're even suggesting that

As for James Blake, sure not the biggest fan of his new album but his old stuff so great that he gets nothing but respect from me.

why do chemical/red eye both stock him in 'dubstep' then?

i think the music he produces isn't exactly dubstep and perhaps more ambiant.. but then you come back to all that 'label' bullshit,
but his music uses all the same production techniques as dubstep artists do,

its a bit like mala, he wouldn't exactly class himself as a dubstep artist, but he's one of the pioneers of the sound (obviously not blake but you know what i mean)
