I suppose when I really think about what I'm after is a nice, pleasant area not too far from some greenery, with good, quick and easy transport links to the uni. Nice Victorian architecture and some decent easy going pubs would be a bonus, but not a deal breaker. I'm going to be doing my post-graduate so living in an overly student area isn't a major priority as it's shaping up to be a pretty serious course. Does that narrow it down any further?

Theres plenty of busses that go sarrrf of the river and you got east london line too,,,plus is within cycling distance if you want to risk your life on a daily basis

I live down the line past new cross in sydenham and often go up towards liverpool st area, a new overground train line goes straight down to new cross from nearby (shoreditch, whitechapel, hoxten stations are all probably pretty close depending on exactly where you are), takes about 20 minutes, trains are big, brand new and air con and not too crowded....don't go quite as frequently as the tube but one about every 10 minutes in peak times.
