I wouldn't go to uni unless the course was really academic and had good career paths.
Far to many people with mickey mouse degree's these days.

to think of it another way; if you dont go it is at least a 20000 quid gamble that you wont change your mind and want to go later in life.

Yeah absolutely nothing wrong in waiting a few years. Wish I'd got some work experience before I went off in all honesty, instead of going off at 18 without fully appreciating it. Better to leave until you know exactly what you want from it, then you'll be all the more likely to put your all into it.

But seriously, uni for me was awesome, and I would recommend it, not for whatever degree you get at the end, but for everything you learn and the experiences and all that jazz. Plus working sucks, every day I'm stuck inside at my desk I always think about those sweet sweet days of missing class to go to the beach *SIGH*

Not at that level yet. But when I get there, I intend to do the same course as OP
Afterwards I may start teaching it, or may get round to teaching later, just live for a little while off temp jobs etc. I'm not too sure I'll be ready to teach straight out of uni, I think I'll need my space from the education system.

if your into music tech get a job (or work experience) in a studio near you.I'm doing that and it seems much more logical than uni, people are more likely to hire you from experience in this biz.

im not going yet but music tech is going to be one of my back up plans hopefully, theres definitely a range of things you can do with it. A guywho used to go to my college did his degree in it, came back and did something akin to volunteer work at the same college then got a job as a tech there and i believe hopes to become a teacher. Plenty of experience and a bit of cheeky cash, works out i guess.

Speaking of Mr (Sacha) Baron-Cohen did you know that his uncle is Simon Baron-Cohen who a lot of the big autism research in the last 30 years? Sacha has definitely been influenced by his theory of mind, it's how he pulls off all his tricks/stunts/gags/acting:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Theory_of_mind - one of the reasons I studied psychology was because I loved Ali G!

Time at Uni is amazing, but personally i'd only say its worth the money if you actually get a decent degree out of it.
Not sure how much help a Music or Art degree is going to give you in the real world?

2nd year economics. Economics is my passion, so not only does it have good career prospects but I love what I'm learning about as well.

I had to read quite a lot of 'economics' research for my dissertation because there has been more work published in that field than psychology for the study of behaviour in relation to economic issues (e.g. personality and purchase planning... though also larger issues like climate change behaviour/attitudes which I worked on), I also subscribed to the Economist's offer of 12 issues for £1! Interesting discipline and I think I should become more familar with it, as well as ecology, to work on modelling possibilities for the future
