I've heard people say that producers like Benga, Coki, & Skream make real dubstep.

People here seem to consider 'brostep' to be anything with wobbly and robotic sounding synths.

So why is it that I hear wobbly and robotic sounding synths in Benga, Coki, & Skream songs?

Please someone clear of the confusion that this forum has caused me!!!
brostep on urban dictionary defined: http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.p ... id=4297993

I already was aware of that definition...

what I am confused about is why a lot of people here group anything with robotic sounds and wobbly synths as brostep.....

Are Benga, Coki, & Skream brostep?

Brostep isn't real, it's just a derogatory word people use for music they don't like. Kinda like how jungle came to be called.

That is what I figured. Snobbishness seems to be pretty rampant in this scene.

I read here that real dubstep is atmosheric, meditative, and soulful

I plan on making atmospheric, meditiative, and soulful beats that bang and also have robotic and wobbly synths thrown in :)

Does this mean that neither the purists or the mainstream 'brosteppers' are doing to dig my shit? lol

So who decides what is what? And when did it become cool to divide the sound? We lasted for soooooo long too. Pretty soon it'll be like how dnb went. It starts with djs only playing one sound. Boring, but at least it only lasts an hour. Later, entire rooms become dedicated to one sound. Frustrating, but I guess we can wander about. At the end, entire nights are one dimensional and the sound becomes over saturated, formulaic and predictable. High production values replace raw creativity... Has this happened already?
