Not that hard... I'm using ableton, so yeah... I think you could translate it to your own DAW?

I've used 3 instances of operator for this one... One for the sub, pretty basic (If you want to learn more about subs, you'll find enough information on the forum)
One for the higher parts of the sound, one for the middle parts? (why? I used bandpassfilters & their resonance... so I had to use 2 instances to achieve the sound!)

First up: finding the chords... If you can't hear it, you could find it with a spectrum analyser!
First chord: C#FF#
Second chord: A#D#F

Just use a simple square on both osc... turn the volume down & put saturation on top (my drive was about 10db, )
Find a good balance between both instruments -> EQ!
Voila, there's the basic sound!

Now put some phasing on top (did I say some? let's make that a lot!)
Don't forget some reverb or delay... & yeah, normally you would come pretty close!

(For those who understand FM synthesis... a little bit triangle modulation is pretty nice!)

you can use both, since there are maj, min, maj7 chords all in the same key. even though i agree, i'll say this, just start making chords out of the 7 notes in your key. try to use the 1-3 and 1-5 as a base, then experiment using a third and 4th note.

on that note, chord theory is pointless really, imo - just like music theory. all it does is restrict you until you realize that it doesn't tell you how to write songs, it just classifies previously written songs so that they may be described using jargon to save time. i only say this because the best progressions i've written have been something that music theory would not lead you to discover. the best progressions and melodies come from creatively bending the rules - otherwise it's going to sound like the ~20 million other songs written using the minor scale.

edit: apparently i went on a tangent and didn't answer the question at all.

you shouldn't use music theory as a general rule anyway man, it's usefull, you just need to use it as something you need to build around, a base.

i'm confused, did you just paraphrase me on purpose? or did i just not make it clear what i was saying.

i'm saying that music theory is nice to get started with something. To know which possibilities you have. But you shoudn't do it, just because it's said so in music theory.

Haha, sorry... I'm just a guy fooling around with his DAW... I don't know how to notate chords, but if you try your best, you'll know what I mean!

oh it's just the notes :p had me wondering there. So how do you go about reading chords of a spec analyzer? Any good ones you recommend?

Well, i use ableton's spectrum analyser and voxengo span!
& ableton's spectrum let you see what frequency/note the sound is hitting (the highest peak is probably the one you're looking for!)

What's about the short sub notes? Keep them simple... But the sound is good... try experimenting with it! Filter envelopes, volume envelopes, arpeg's, ...

That's actually how the sub goes in that song, except it's one long note instead of the little ones in there. But i had no time to sidechain it to the kick, which he does in that song, so i just cut it in lil parts.

hey guys, one more question....its not just the joy o kinda sound im after its just the future garage etc kinda synths in general. Which synths and effects do you use quite often?
I dont wanna rip off your songs or anything im just wanting to be in the right ball park so i can go from there

It's not about the synths... It's what you do with the synths!
Long notes, chords, & enveloppes!

effects: the usual... reverb, delay, saturation, bit reduction (sometimes), phaser, chorus!
If you want to make garage... it's all about the drums+perc you're using with your synths and so on... So def search for some good ones! (http://dubstepforum.com/viewtopic.php?f ... 8&start=20)

Also, load your favorite songs in your DAW... warp them & analyze the shit out of them (especially for the drums, you'll notice some nice things!)

Detuned SAW's and alot of reverb, and stereo delay because it always sounds good when tempo synced

^no don't detune it, it'll lose it's sharp characteristic. Just lots of phasing on saws or squares. Mine is rather nice imo

this, more about note choices than about the pads, use embellished chords.
