You could probably use this thread.

Some couplings of words from conversation on here from this thread could quite easily make quick and easy titles if you're in a creative rut for titles.
You could pick up any random magazine right now and titles could come thick and fast from phrases used in it.

Well, that's his opinion? If I had a personal attachment to a piece of music I wrote, I wouldn't want someone else naming it. Titles do give context.

Do what you like, obviously. I guess with Charlie Parker there's just so much going on in the music that it's not going to all be messed up by some record company mook giving it a generic title.

I kind of see what you mean about context, though for a lot of dubstep I like it's maybe more about keying into the culture and the scene and less about expressing feelings.

band name or dj name is harder. it sounds good for a day or two, then you decide that name sucks

I heartily agree.

I like to keep a kind of mental store of lots of words and ideas that i like, and then i refer to that when naming tracks.

Quite often, the idea i have before/during making the track will directly inform the name that comes out at the end.

Sometimes, the finished track just seems suited to some name or idea that i've had sitting around, so i call it that.

the two tracks that I consider finished have names that are closely related to my personal experience when starting them or the idea I had for starting them.
When I started doing a track after the fusion festival 2006 it very soon became clear that this would be the "Fusion Dub"
not an innovative title but well...

the other track that I just finished two weeks ago,
was like giving birth to something (it took me about a year to finish it)
but I knew there was something good to come, so I called it
"to come to 2"
and there is this feeling in the track,
if you want go listen..

IMHO not having any idea as what to name a track means you did not get involved, which is not a good sign..

Funny Topic! You know I always went for the name of my .rns files, because that's where I had to find a name quickly, totally intentional. Well, look up my tracklist, quite random names, but somehow every single one fits like a glove.

Ive just came up with a good way of naming tracks.

Ask multiple someones their favourite word and favourite place.


Pick the best two, bosh done fill in the gaps with "the" and "in" etc...

Naming tracks is easy if you have a concept behind it.....or an idea!

Sometimes it just comes up to you, hits you in the head.

Sometimes it's more than frustrating.

I've got this problem with my iPod - my display is fucked. Broke it. So I can never tell what track is playing, just the artist. Names don't mean a thing, sound matters most.

PS. It's effin hard to find a track on my pc after having a listen on the iPod. That's what's killing me.

Tunes just remind me of things when I'm writing them, so thats what I go for.

I think it makes sense to try get a name for your track that fits with your tune. Itsn ot hard to listen to your track and pick something out imo. If you have any vocals then its even easier.

It helps people to remember your tune too I guess.

Actually I think that coming up with names is not that hard.. I usually just name them after what I'm feeling at the moment.. makes me sound like a bit of a pussay, oh well..

I hate now that everythings digital your nearly forced to name tracks. With vinyl you have this side and that side, no names for maximum techno style facelessness. You have to have some form of text for an MP3 to name the file .
Mate of mine loved naming techno tracks things like X3 7 Forty(The Orion Modulator) for the laugh.
Don't look to aphex twin for ideas.....please don't.
Temple Ball is an excellent name for that track btw Gravious.

When I finish a tune I listen from start to finish then name it after whatever thought the sound conjures up in my mind.

It's usually an object or a thing, like a bridge or a bumble bee. It's all vibes for me.
