As much of a dick he might be online, he does spout some very intelligent stuff in these interviews. You really get the impression he was into the rave scene (I wasn't, I'm 19) and it's not at all forced or a gimmick.

"Seriously, I have mood swings like mad."
really now
zomby has threatened violence on several people as far as i know
he's funny... has like 3 good tunes out of the 100's he has produced, and everyone is on his dick. and to talk about other people using gimmicks... coming from the guy who makes a gimmick out of not showing his face.
and yeah, does the following description sound like someone who busts guns?
Not that Zomby himself looks perturbed, or even out of place. At first glance I mistake him for an off-duty model as he stands outside the front door flipping through messages on his phone: cheekbones present and correct, hair sculpted and waxed back, three-quarter-length trousers tied in below the knees. He’s carrying the sort of glossy branded shopping bags that fashion houses hand out when you buy something expensive, and on the floor beside him is a Louis Vuitton holdall presumably filled with overnight stuff from his recent stay at a London Bridge hotel.

he's always been contradictory. when he was a normal joe on the forums he'd slag on people promoting their shit in a certain way then go promoting his shit on the forum in the exact same way.
I think he wants to believe he's having some epic emotional battle going on in his head regarding artistic integrity and the state of music today but he's not. I think he wants to believe he's an introvert battling his internal image and need to express his music but he's not
Instead he's just a very calculated dude who knows exactly how he wants to play the game. Thats why he goes about talking about putting up flyers on his wall and trying to play up how shit used to be to play romantic for the young folks. Thats why he takes a stab at an artist bigger than he is. It reads well, and he wants to make sure his image is constructed for maximum benefit.
Of coourse nothing wrong with this... infact I applaud the effort as it blatantly works on a large portion of internet going folks. He understands how to hold focus

to be fair, the tunes i do like, i REALLY like. the rest just seem like a mess of arpeggio, 8 bit, and compressed kicks
i imagine a lot of good producers have a ton of throw away tunes in the back room, but they don't go releasing them.

but he's played his self image so well that he causes people to think "is this tune minimal because its lazy, or genius in its simplicity". His flashes of brilliance and well conduced image really throw people for a whirl.
I'm in your boat.... really dig some stuff, and really not a fan of a lot. Funny thing being that a lot of what he seems to view as hommage to older sounds comes off as a little too obvious if not generic.... after reading that article I think Interview Zomby wouldn't listen to Zomby's records.
Regardless talented dude and entertaining from afar

..he might have 3 tunes that you like, but that doesn't mean the rest aren't "good". You're either feeling it or not. what a waste thing to say.

What does it matter at the end of the day though? I don't know the guy, I don't care how he acts. lol @ pyschoanalysis.

I don't hear much appeal in a lot of his output. It's like when producers go through the "let's sample video games!!!" / lofi experimental phase. Add to the fact that he seems like a total jeb end who's mastered the art of lip service, he's a bit lost on me. I guess he's a bit like Skream in that he's prolific in his output but not very consistent. It's probably near impossible to have both. Saying all of this I do find him strangely interesting to read about, probably more interesting than his music.
For some top class reading with the master of polite forum etiquette I recommend:
like promise one said, good to read about although this is probably the first time ive read anything about him for more than a couple of lines..good read.
