Nah your solution wouldn't work because I already have some EQing on the instrument as it is, so it need to be always on. I figured it out though. Just go to your PM2, click on that little arrow, click Browse Parameters, click on the thing in the browser, go to whatever you want to control, click link to controller, and link it to a Fruity Peak Controller that you put on the snare's FX slot. If that makes any sense. I'm tired as balls.

And those knobs are not dry-wet, they are the amount of the effect that is added.

ThAts why I said to add the eq on the end of the signal chain . To just alter the final result, if you ran out fx slots, just resample it, and just move whatever you want to link to a controller, tools (in the top toll bar)< last tweaked < linkto controller . Saves Alot of time from using browse parameters. and why wouldt that work ? Have the eq volume knob on all the way off when the snare isn't being played, and set the peak controller tension to make the knob go from 0% to 100% on the eq's volume knob whenever the snare hits.

I'm not sure sidechaining a snare would be a good idea there are to many high frequencies in a track to just knock them all out of the way for a snare i can't imagine it sounding good at all, then again I've never tried it

Try adding around 1-6 Khz to bring out a bit of the 'crack' in the snare. Also try a small hump at around 200 Hz to bring out some low end in it too. Then compress it, or just compress your whole drum bus to make the drums a bit tighter and pop out more. Or just make it louder lol.

Or even better, try some parallel compression on the drums overall.

And anyway, if you do it just right, it goes unnoticed but the snare is much more clear in the mix.

Here are a couple of things I do:
Run the snare thru camel crusher and mix to taste
Parallel compress the drums

Try that and it should help. If you absolutely need to, sidechain your basses to the snare to dip the volume of everything else while the snare hits.

try adding a transient shaper to it...can do wonders sometimes

Also, go do some reading on creative compression.
You`ll learn about all those cool things like side chain compression.
