what is obama blowing all this money on? i'm looking at these charts showing how he's continuing bush's spending habits. The stimulus was spread out over 10 years, right? and with Iraq winding down wouldn't our military spending be much less?

Unemployment means less taxes coming in, more welfare/unemployment/foodstamps going out so to make a basic analogy our government is making less and spending more simply by our unemployment level.

Our unemployment currently is higher than what we're used too but well within a manageable range.

.com burst----->9-11--------> housing market ------> credit default swamp all in a row kind of exposed a lot of fundamental economic problems for our country and haven't had time to recover yet. I think with the wars winding down, libya winding down as well, we'll have the OPPORTUNITY to gain some traction. Just depends if we fuck it up or not

The only reason this is even an issue is because obama's in office. The ceiling was raised 19 times during the bush administration alone. It's a non-issue.

Debt isn't a problem as long as you can plan to pay it off eventually. Long term growth and employment is all that matters to an economy... we spent most of the 20th Century paying off debts and we built an excellent country in the process.

It's the news and we're trying to make sense of why the government of America is risking a default, OP asked questions and got some responses that weren't personal opinions, you can't just rely on one source of information to work out what's happening in the world.... SNH is pretty much my daily newspaper

I'm not talking about whether or not you have control over the outcome, I'm saying that you don't know enough to give an opinion either way on the matter. An equally valid question would be will it rain next monday and why? You don't know and have no way of knowing, so any opinion you give on the matter will be a shot in the dark and thus not really worth defending. But whatever, I'm audi 5000.

But some people do understand economics (or at the very lease economic principles) and do have valid opinions on the matter. The point of discussing on a discussion forum is sharing knowledge and possibly opening each other up to new ideas.


I agree most of us aren't qualified to make big decissions on the matter.... However, some of us may have the ability to shed some light on the subject and possibly help provide our fellow ninjas with a good read or another manner of educating ourselves

Sick article, cheers I think psychology is going to be used a lot more in the future, even in things like 'hard' science education because you won't believe how much researchers and academics kid themselves in to believing what they want to... the social science of science has been around for about 40 years now and it's hardly even touched on in mainstream psychology, scientists like to think they're 'being objective' at all times which just means when they're not they can say they're scientists and no-one can judge them
