simpley put sidechaining sends a signal to effect another and make it act
the signalmakes the efect come into effect otherwise it's idle

Using the volume level of one signal to control a parameter

No, that's a specific type of sidechaining called Sidechain Compression.

Sidechaining itself is where the output of one track triggers an effect. So for Sidechain Compression, if you had a peak controller on the kick that triggered the compressor on the bassline, that would be Sidechain Compression.

If the peak controller on the kick was linked to the Reverb wet control on the snare (for example), this would be Sidechain Reverb, as the reverb effect on the snare would only be triggered when the kick hit.
so i could sidechain a snare to the pitch of my sub? because ive been using automation clips(which i love, found them a few months ago)

Absolute super powerful alien technology in fl, yes. Can use audio signal of anything to modulate anything that is automatable. The full implications of that statement have never been realized.

Inverse dynamic saturation, treble content of a flute line modulating loop points of texture samples, I can't go further enumerating, I start to sweat.

Fruity peak controller
