I take great care to match my socks with my shirt or tie, and you wouldn't believe the number of compliments I receive on that very subject.

bpm in my opinion does matter. if you're part of a scene that does music in a specific bpm range and you make a tune that you can't mix with any other tracks enjoyed in that scene well then your track probably won't get played. of course with digital dj'ing stuff gets easier nowadays but still, you get the idea

brostep is dying actually, at least in australia it is. Like all loud subgenres, it has a quick limelight. As for dubstep - the dungeon sound is taking off atm - being led by guys like matt u, kryptic minds, biome.etc. and personally I can't wait for more. I'd love to see more dubby dubstep as well - the Widdler needs more focus :)

it's all one big cycle like fashion tbh, people are going to do a resurgence of older genres and breeding them together, like they always do with cleaner and more modern production techniques and some tool somewhere who never was really into the old genre or never heard it is going to toss some new genre name on it that sounds retarded
such is the way of music

That may be, but nevertheless, bpm plays a crucial role on how a vibe is delivered.
Some sounds just cannot be contorted to fit all bpm ranges, just as some socks should not be worn with some shirts and ties.

Do people do it, or ignore it altogether?
Unfortunately for the rest of us, yes.

Honestly, my socks never match. Balls to it.
Messing around with tempos not typical in dubstep? hellyeah, probably tick off djs though
(I mean, I don't even make much dubstep to be honest, although It's influenced my sound a bit)

140'll stick around in "dungeon sound" and maybe brostep (thoiuugh i find it hard to believe it'll last any longer than a couple of years from now) and hopefully in the butterz grime revival but the main uk bass focus is heading down towards 130 atm
spot on. 130 running things AND grime is back, it's frickin awesome :h:

Personally i'm really excited about this emerging sound of airy synths layered with white noise (earliest I can think is james blake) among other things, often infused with garage type rhythms. Tunes like fill my coffee get me so excited because it makes it clear the sound is definitely evolving and becoming even more musical and more expressive imo.

I'd have to disagree, similar techniques obviously but done differently. Even if it does sound a lot like him, music's still good. Their free ep is ace

Brostep is pretty big in Melbourne, a lot of big nights happening.

Unfortunately for the rest of us, yes.
I'm not suggesting that BPM is completely useless, though my original post pretty much did. To me, it's not important on a musical side.
I ought to just drop this, seeing as I'm not a DJ and don't think like one, and DJ's are rather important in EDM.

I'll agree that bpm is crucial to how a vibe is delivered, but so is how you deliver the vibe itself. If I give a song around 130 a half-time feel, then it could well feel like half of 130 if I do it right. Maybe I really am on something, but some jungle and dnb did this. The song is at one tempo, but when certain elements of the tune are emphasized that give a half time feel, you can sense the half-time kind of feel and the vibe is different than if you compare it to a tune where all elements follow the tempo and feel of the beat more strictly thus making the tune have a faster feel to it. It's that way in all music. The tempo may be in range, but the tune could feel slower or faster in terms of vibe. BPM alone isn't important enough to me to really be a deciding factor. It's all relativity though. I'm sure some DJ's could make a good setlist containing a few tunes with "off vibes" just as how sometimes the pair of socks match the outfit when you add or take away something complimenting/clashing with it. It's possible, but a bit off topic.
